Spring in New York City came slowly - and it was about the only thing that was slow these days. The tallest building in the world was being built on Fifth Avenue. Migration of African-Americans from the South was at an all-time high, sending the Harlem Renaissance into full swing, and prohibition meant most of New York's adults were off the streets

After an unsuccessful attempt to round up some squirrels in Central Park to serve as bar help, Barbossa had stuck a "HELP WANTED" sign on the door of the speakeasy, poured himself a glass of rum, and had promptly fallen asleep under his hat.
