St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Tuesday Morning and Afternoon

But for anyone who actually wanted to get out of the hotel, there was plenty to do today. The morning program for Fandom was filled with an introductory look at the Habitat for Humanity housing project they'd be working on all week. It was a little out of the city center, on an abandoned plot the local chapter had found. Some of the houses were ( Read more... )

A little further along, a couple of people are getting ready to put up some drywall. They can always use a few extra people around.

Sam was supposed to have a date tonight but he wasn't sure that would go off since Natalie hadn't been at her best yesterday. So, he figured he could get a little dirty beforehand and just shower afterward if the date still went off.

He'd never helped with drywall before but after getting a crash course in it, he got to work with a few other people and yes, he was definitely getting dirty.

Seifer let one of the people on the site give him a quick run down of exactly what they were doing, and then he joined right in.

They'd have this done in no time.

It seemed like there were enough people working on the painting, and hauling around lumber wasn't really Quinn's style. (Not that manual labor in general was, but there was this whole thing about setting a good example.) She put on a pair of coveralls, watched the demonstration, then started helping with the drywall.

The dust in her hair? Totally an excuse to use the airtub again before she headed out for the night.

"You want me to do that?" Puck asked, from where he was working on the framework. Someone here did not understand how this worked, really, since he totally just wanted to take away Quinn's drywall and send her to get her nails done or something...Quinn-like.

"Yeah," Quinn admitted. "But if I hand it off, I look like a slacker. I'll put up with it until Annie's done painting."

"Because she'll win and be less slacky otherwise?" he wondered. "Painting's easier than drywall, babe. I'm just saying."

Well, duh, she would win. But Quinn already could tell Puck thought that was stupid.

"Maybe I'll quit a little sooner," she conceded. "But I'm not tired or anything yet, promise."

"If you pull anything, let me know." He was pretty sure cheer, while it was TOTALLY A REAL SPORT (between Santana and Quinn, he had that ingrained), did not prep you for building a house. "I'll give you a massage."

Ulterior motives? Where? Puck didn't even know what 'ulterior' meant.

Sadly, that was literally true.

"Will you give me a massage if I don't pull anything?" Quinn flirted. Or flirted as much as she could while she was trying to maneuver a sheet of drywall into place. She was in good shape, but this still wasn't the easiest thing ever.

"I think I might be persuaded," Puck noted. "And we have that air tub thingie you like so much...."

"It's a tub in our bedroom," Quinn said. "How can oit not be awesome?"

"I'm not arguing," Puck said, and he wasn't. It was a tub in the bedroom he shared with his girlfriend. It was like the school wanted him to get laid. "I'm just saying I'm gonna make sure you're not all sore from working all day."

"You're so good to me," Quinn said dryly, as she hoisted another sheet of drywall. Not that she wasn't appreciative. ".. actually, can you help me get this into place? It's easier with two people."

Puck set down the wood he was holding and hustled over, pushing the drywall up into place. And if he tried to take the bulk of the weight without commenting so that Quinn wouldn't have to work as hard, well, he was trying to show off be a gentleman. "I'm pretty sure that if we sent pictures of me doing this back to Lima, my mom'd have a heart attack. I'm doing good deeds."

"Mine would probably think this was a church thing," Quinn mused, as she let him take the bulk of the weight while she finished aligning the drywall properly. She was dedicated, not stupid. "But then she'd worry that I was going to mess up my hands."
