Celes shielded her eyes with an arm as the foul, driving roar blasted across the battlefield. A dismayed yell and a sound like a tumbling boulder, and a sidelong glance revealed Sabin somersaulting backwards and out of sight. Celes opened her mouth to shout, but then the blast came again and there went Setzer, coattails flapping in the rush--

The great green monster wobbled, the ground shook as he took a step closer. Celes gritted her teeth as she fell to her knees, but took a fresh grip on her sword. She wasn't sure--she was definitely sure she couldn't take him alone, but she had no choice. Not with Terra still--weak, still uncertain, still not the person that Celes had known, who had fought the Empire so bravely... and now unable to fight off whatever force within had stifled that. But I must defend her... I must defeat him....

Wild movement caught her eye. A figure in red pelted out of the crumbling house nearby, ponytail streaming behind her, eyes glinting with brilliant jade fire, steel glinting as she drew her sword and stood between Celes and the monster.

"Terra!"

She didn't turn to look. She didn't even seem to hear. But Celes was forced to shield her eyes again as blinding pink light filled her vision. There she was--the Terra she remembered. She watched as the half-esper raised her arms and brought forth liquid green clouds, hurling them at Phunbaba and nearly toppling him with the force of the poison in them. Celes barely had to do more than watch--awe reflected in her face as she watched Terra's magnificent battle. She had always been beautiful like this....

And as Phunbaba toppled and fell, choking on the miasma, Celes smiled. "You're back," she whispered.
