No idea about the teaparty people, but I'm glad to see you here. Welcome back. :-) And Happy New Year.

As best as I can determine, it's because of a couple things.

a) One of the central tenets of that group really is "Fuck you, got mine."

b) Their goal as has been stated in the past is specifically to prevent anything that Obama wants to happen. Anything at all. Even if it's an idea that they had that he's taken up later. If he says it, they want to block it. Because he is the terrible black socialist devil.

It's asinine and stupid and ruining things. If the recovery shits itself because of their tantrums and inability to compromise, their response will be to point their fingers and blame Obama and the Democrats for it, despite the Tea Party people being unable to actually, you know, work towards something in the middle that could have done some good.

I cannot think that that's truly how they'd explain themselves.

The first, I grant, is an extrapolation from actions.

The second though, has been stated by party leadership on camera in as many words. Obstruct Obama and the Democrats no matter what, full stop.

If they crash the economy while Obama is in office, it makes it easier to elect a Republican in 2016, then reenact the Bush tax cuts and say "We cut taxes!" and then ensure 20+ years of Republican rule and control on issues well beyond economics that terrify us.

What they don't get is that the demographics are against them, and everyone, including even a lot of Republicans are pissed. It's not going to work.

As one activist said, "Let's go over the cliff and see what's on the other side. We have a day of reckoning coming, whether it's next week or next year. Sooner or later the chickens are coming home to roost. Let's let them roost next week."

Or, as South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly said, 'It's time to make President Obama own this economy.'

I doubt if a clear explanation is possible. What I sense is 'Apocalypse? Bring it on!'
