...but I want good Max/Alec (from Dark Angel) fic! If by some strange chance you have recs, flist, bring 'em on.

Ahem. Yeah. greenapricot and I finished (re)watching the series over the past two days and now I just want to crawl up into some fic. It was fun to watch with her, because well, I love her, but also because for once we 'shipped the same. (greenapricot ' ( Read more... )

Mine too! No wonder we are so meant to be. :)

Note how I can't stop using all of the DA icons I spent hours searching for today. *head desk*

Kindred spirits!

Note how I can't stop using all of the DA icons I spent hours searching for today.

Yes, and now I feel woefully lacking. *runs off to search for new icons*

And even Anne/Gilbert could be seen as a precursor. Heh. I seem to like it when the guy thinks the girl is awesome and the girl thinks he's annoying. (Yet possessed of a sinister attraction.) Heh.

Loved this. Because HEE. So Gilbert and Anne. It also reminded me of my first boyfriend. Our friends used to call use Gilbert and Anne for that reason. I still don't know why he liked me so much, but, man, it was annoying. lol (I regret him still)

Hee. I used to say that my ideal man was a cross between Gilbert and George from A Room with a View.

the guy is tough yet snarky/silly on the outside but with a non-annoying amount of tortured darkness on the inside. I also like it if they "work together" and part of the chemistry involves verbal sparring.

Which is why I ship B/A first instead of B/S, because I'm the opposite. I like the guy strong/silent/shy. And sometimes dark on the outside with more than annoying doses of torturedness. (Sadly, like Anne Shirley before she gets her head put on straight: "I'd like a man who could be wicked.") I love a heroic gal, but I prefer Anne Elliot to Lizzy Bennet--if I have to choose I'd prefer the strength to be emphasized above quick wit and quippiness.

And even Anne/Gilbert could be seen as a precursor. I ship them whole-heartedly and always have, but I've always felt like they were out of the mould for me. Gilbert was too happy and nice and I was never enthralled with that Pride and Prejudice (again) "don't get along at first" dynamic. I think of the ships from my childhood, Maria/Captain Von Trapp is a much better prototype ( ... )

Gah! That Anne quote is a serious part of my understanding of my own forms of attraction. "Someone who could be wicked, but chooses not to be." Because if they were incapable of being bad, it just wouldn't be hot ( ... )

I was Jo/Professor all the way. Totally thought Laurie didn't deserve Jo. Ooh, which highlights another me ship preference that Anne/Gilbert defied: older/muchyounger.

Of course I like other things, too--but I do have a type.

It's funny because looking at at fiction through the fannish lens, I don't have to do much retconing. It's true I didn't know the word "ship" back when I first shipped Anne/Gil, but my feelings about most things I was truly obessed with fit a fangirl mould. I was writing fanfic and championing particular ships and all sorts of stuff like that way before I ever found it on the internets. Though I must say, I didn't really see the appeal of slash until this past year.

It's the charisma aspect, out of the things you mention, that I tend not to find attractive. Charismatic men turn me off. In fact, I was startled falling for Angel as hard as I did because he's so damn pretty. I was in fact weirdly uncomfortable with it, couldn't quite tell whether I actually found DB attractive, though I really dug his ( ... )

Yes, retconning is perhaps the wrong term for what I'm doing--I believe that I was always fannish, I just didn't have a community for it before. I mean, when I was four I was so obsessed with The Wizard of Oz that I called my little brother Toto (or my stuffed sheep, it depended), answered to Dorothy and had an Oz-themed bonnet and apron made for me.

I like older/younger too. Hello Mal/River.

Interesting. I am a complete sucker for charisma. As a friend recently noted, I tend to pick the "shiniest" member of the group to be my "mate." Which can be incredibly annoying when that person is always "in demand."

But yeah, there are SO many differences between RL attraction and fictional. Because the fantasy bit is kind of the whole point, yeah?

And yep, he's the guy from SPN.

*flails around at the mention of Anne/Gilbert* And I totally see the connection between them and Spike/Buffy and Veronica/Logan because I love all those ships too! As well as lots of other ships. *flails more*

Like you, I'm often more about the character than the actor. Did you ever see Jensen Ackles on Dawson's Creek (CJ) and Smallville (Jason Teague)? I didn't mind him on SV, but I prefer his character on SPN (I haven't seen much of DA).

And I know you're all about the DA fic and the Faith/Dean fic right now, but I have read an amazing Dean/Xander fic (you are not surprised I suspect!). It's reremouse's Meeting On The Train To Tequilaville which is short and awesome!

hee! I'm just realizing I quickly went from Anne/Gilbert to Dean/Xander.

Hee! All roads lead back to Xander with you.

And I have, in fact, seen every episode of Dawson. *peeks out from behind fingers* And I totally didn't like CJ, but it wasn't Jensen's fault. Besides, it's all about Pacey! Who totally fits in with the pattern!

I haven't watched much Smallville. I think I'm intimidated by the mass of it and its variety of cheesiness (so earnest!). I do enjoy it from time to time for the hoyay and all, but there are so many other things and I'm so behind so....

Hee! All roads lead back to Xander with you. I know! I wasn't even trying, it just happened! *g*

After I posted the comment, I remembered us having a discussion about watching Dawson's Creek before. I've seen basically ever episode, but I think I missed a couple in the last season. I was also all about Pacey!! And a big time Joey/Pacey shipper!

I have an immense affection for Smallville despite how very bad it is (oh god, you're so right about the cheesiness and earnestness!). Well if you ever want to check out the Jensen stuff, he was just in season 4. And, Smallville sucks at narrative or character continuity so you can jump in at any point. He's a football coach and dating Lana.

Doesn't he go all psychopath or something? And boy would it be weird if I watched that show for Jensen when I haven't been watching it for JM all that much.
