Okay, so I probably shouldn't be posting right now, because I am up to my eyeballs in work (I have 50-ish pages of paper[s] to write in the next two weeks) but I really needed to express the following. But I may not be able to get back to any resulting comments in a timely manner ( Read more... )

Dude, doesn't it kind of make you appreciate Rosfandom? It took me YEARS to figure out people were hating me there. *g*

Haha! I wonder what that is. Do you think it's because Rosfandom was all on message boards? Perhaps LJ makes it easier for people to say shit of all kinds.

BTW, love you sweetie, and I hope the wank isn't getting you *too* down.

I think Rosfandom just used to talk about people behind their backs. lol Anytime something did explode, it was huge, but not often did it come out. Probably because I only say what I really think to people I trust implicitly (that's one of the curses of being a BNF - having to be VERY careful about what you say...I have edited myself on LJ so many times, you have no idea).

Kath, a BNF who hopefully uses her powers for good (although she still thinks it's ridiculous that she is a BNF - I'm just old)

Ugh. It's all ick.

Side note: I love how everyone I know who admits to being a BNF is all blase about it. Except to point out the serious drawbacks that can come along with it. If only these people knew...

Geez! Is this stuff going on in all fandoms?...I've never really get the idea of hating people because they're good at what they do and popular for it.

I'm the living proof the so-called BNF people are open to other low profile mortals. I've never written or produced anything and I've had really good relations with loads of writers and artists that I like.

I truly believe all this hatred is the result of huge envy.

Keep on posting whatever rec you feel like. This is your own space on the web and you can do whatever you want.

Sometimes I'm almost happy I'm not talented enough to get bashed.

I think it comes up in every fandom at some point. Pretty circular. And yep, envy tends to most hurt the uh, envier.

yup! totally agree.

What is this craze about being popular anyway? Why does it bother some people and why do they envy it? I think popularity in fandom is like respect in RL: you earn it by doing your own thing and minding your own bussiness not by deliberately doing things to get it, just like you stated on your post. If people gets in a fandom with the mere purpose of achieving popularity they really need psychological help...

Oh yea.

The Flying Monkeys make up for it though.

Damn. I only have the pair of monkeys. Somebody else has four! OTOH, I only have to feed the two.

Okay, enough with the metaphors. I'ma force my Medium Name Fan ass to do some glamorous homework. :P

(BTW, I think your post was especially admirable for its honesty. I shoulda said that when I commented.)

Man, if you're not in the mood for wank and can avoid it, sounds like a good plan.

And yay! I'll go open that in a tab and save it for a treat! :)

i'm out of the loop.. What happened exactly?
As far as i'm concerned i've never heard the word BNF before. What does it stand for?
I'm a low profile LJ user ( the only gift i have is my voice and i can't really use it in fandoms lol)
and there are some BNF on my Flist of course like every and each one of us.
I didn't feel any hate toward anyone but like i said before, i'm kinda out of the loop most of the time.

I really liked what you wrote by the way. And thanks for your fics and recs, because i read and like everyone of them ;)

BNF = Big Name Fan.

Eh. The usual happened. Somebody made a post and named names. Chaos ensued.

I wouldn't worry about it too much--you seem to have a good attitude and this isn't necessarily a loop that's worth worrying about too much. IMO.

Thank you for what you said! I'm glad my recs are helpful for you. That's why I make 'em. :)
