I finally watched Foxcatcher this afternoon. It is good, but not great. I felt the movie can be more dramatic, but director Miller chose to observe rather than to explain. Also the ending is so abrupt, it feels so anti-climactic

I was looking forward to your critic and I find it very interesting and detailed.
I can't wait to see the movie myself, but it will have to wait.
Did you notice any major difference with the shooting script we had read ? Scenes added or deleted or very different ? From what you remember.
I remember that just reading the scene where Dave can't deliver convincingly "DuPont is my mentor" because he can't fake that much, it came across as powerful.
Does it make people cringe when Channing's character delivers his speech in a school at the beginning ?
It,s true that Tatum usually projects this vulnerability that comes across has authentic and it makes him endearing, we are rooting for him.
I'm glad he is getting positive and even glowing reviews !
A few things in the script or even in the promo are not in the movie. For example, du Pont humiliated Mark in front of his dinner guests. This is not in the movie. Also I remember seeing du Pont let loose his mother's horses in an earlier trailer. This was deleted too. Nancy smoking scene in the script was replaced by a similar scene. The two didn't get along very well. I think Mark was jealous of Nancy because he thought she took his brother away from him.
Mark's speech was awkward, more awkward is the scene after it. Also I like how Miller positioned his camera. So there was Mark in the background waiting in an office in that elementary school. But in the foreground you see a little kid sitting on a chair restlessly. The boy probably did something wrong so he was called to the Principal's office or something. The comparison is very interesting.
And I also like the brothers wrestling practice scene at the beginning. It is very telling about the complicated relationship between the brothers.
Oh yes, I remember the dinner scene! It made me cringe. But maybe it explained more why Mark would have had enough with DuPont ? Or was it still clear in the film that the relationship was no longer healthy ?
Also, do they still have the quiet scene at the beginning of Mark's stay at Foxcatcher where they talk about the hunting dogs ? Mark marvels at how well they obey, etc. I thought that scene was a good reflection of DuPont's point of view of all the people working for him, what he wanted of his new protégé, what was his final goal. etc.
Really looking forward to watch this, even if it's not going to be funny nor "Christmasy".
Do you remember a scene in the trailer where du Pont slapped Mark? That's when the relationship went down in the final version of the movie.
There were a few scenes in which Mark and du Pont were doing drugs together. I don't remember in the movie they bonded by talking about dogs, but in one scene, shirtless Mark was trimming Du Pont's hair. It was very homoerotic. At one point, Mark was sitting on the floor before du Pont and touching the older man's legs casually. You wonder what was going on.
And the movie is not very Christmasy, but it's a pleasure to see how CT progressed as an actor.
