I really need to do this. I buy crappy stuff when I have a "need" and then fall out of love rapidly ms buy new crappy stuff. I think if I just limited myself to 30 items I would just wear what I've got. I'm inspired!
Thanks! I feel like so often I go shopping and am so desperate to just find things that are reasonably cute that I'm not very focused on what I need and what's better quality. Moving proved to be the perfect time to make a big change. Now as I shop I can look at my fall clothes I've set aside and think about which pieces I need so I can look put together, and I'm liking it better so far by a good bit. I have a bunch of stuff to sell that wasn't good for me though....especially shoes! haha
I appreciate seeing a plus-sized minimalist wardrobe. I often find that my personal style is much more toned down than a lot of the (fabulous) fatshion blogs out there, so seeing people who just want to wear jeans and t-shirts all the time makes me happy.
Thanks! I work from home so I love my jeans and tshirts, and just want to look a little more put together than I used to. The summer is definitely a more casual season for me too.
The idea behind a capsule wardrobe is to go through your closet and design a seasonal set of clothes that you love, getting rid of things that don't fit or are worn out. People who make one usually shoot for a number between 30 and 37 pieces and limit themselves to wearing the chosen items for the next few months. Then the have a new capsule for the next season of clothing that uses some of the same items, adds seasonally appropriate ones, and culls things that didn't work.
So it's a mixture of minimalist ideas, improving/discerning your style by trail and error, and preventing overspending on items that aren't needed. All so you can live with less stress, and have fun mixing and matching pieces that you know work well together overall. I go into even more detail in my blog if you want to hear more. :-)
I think I understand this concept, but can you clarify something for me? Is it a capsule per season? Or are you limiting yourself to a wardrobe of only 30-35 pieces total?
