Today, when all the children awoke in their beds, they would discover a most joyous occasion! There was a carnival in town! A carnival just for them! Not only did Cade get his face made up to look like a werewolf (once he figured out what that was), he also convinced the artist to give him some paint on his arms too.

Fake tattoos were the best!

No wolves for Dinah. Instead, there was a butterfly that was wonderful and she was going to always, always, always wear this. No washing her face, ever!

"Noooooo," Dinah protested, laughing and trying to catch her breath. "'S just fun! And you're here!! You have to see Momoko and Priestly and oh oh we got locked in the pantry closet last night and Momoko rescued us and then we went looking for Cook but we didn't find him and--" She hugged Jaime spontaneously. "Now there's a carnyval! And you're here!" Who knows which of those she liked more?

"Big adventure," Dinah agreed, breathless, and rested her forehead on his with a little bonk. "We ate all the cookies. And I beat Priestly at thumb wars. Oh oh and there are pie booths!" She hugged him again, snuggling close. "C'mon we should find Momo! An' Priestly!" Because Jaime was here! To pay attention to them!

Jaime was beginning to suspect that letting the three of them get together was a bad idea. A bad, bad idea.

But he put on a brave face and grinned. "Okay, little miss bossy. Let's go see what kind of adventure we can rustle up."
