As the students filed in, the might notice that the statuesque blond standing at the front of the classroom was not their normal teacher.

"Good morning,” she said, her voice carrying effortlessly.  “I am Lady Ghanima Atreides, and I have been tasked with teaching your class for the remainder of the term.  You may call me Lady Ghanima or Miss Ghanima, whichever you are more comfortable with.  The first person to call me Lady Atreides gets detention.”  Ghani grinned unrepentantly.  "Lady Atriedes is my grandmother, and I am nowhere near that old."

"Now, if I could have all of you introduce yourselves, along with whatever profession you had been considering up until this point, so that I may put names to faces."  Ghani pointed randomly at one student sitting in front.  "You.  Go."

Once everyone had introduced themselves, Ghani moved over to her desk.

“I have a copy of your original syllabus here, and it looks like things have been rearranged a bit.”  She glanced up to smile at them encouragingly.  “We’re going to say that Mister Hades’ lecture on the benefits of being a minion counts as the class on retail, because no one should have to endure that twice.”

"As your world appears to be attempting to branch out into space exploration, I thought we could take a step back in the lesson plan, and look at the different career paths in the aviation industry.”  Ghanima collected a stack of handouts from her desk and walked around to give one to each student.  “There are a number of different jobs in aviation.  While many people initially think of being a pilot, there are also the engineers, the designers, the manufacturers, and the navigators.

"Today, however, we look at the aviators themselves, and the various options, commercial and private; open to those who wish to soar.  You can fly a commercial or private shuttle, carrying passengers, fly for the various military organizations on this planet, or cargo planes  carrying much needed supplies.  A good pilot is always in high demand."

"For those of you for whom the sky is not enough, there is space flight."  Ghani sat on her desk, glowing blue eyes watching them carefully.  "Space flight is in its infancy on this planet.  Where I am from, movement between planets and systems is all carefully undertaken by the Spacing Guild and their Navigators, made possible by the use of Spice.  Here on Earth, however, there is no such dependency on a drug.  Indeed, astronauts and cosmonauts are highly discouraged from using any mind-expanding substances."

"The process to become a pilot in space is much more rigorous than atmospheric piloting, although it should be stressed that neither is a walk in the park.  Being a pilot of any kind requires good reflexes, a quick mind, a love of long hours and strange places, a willingness to follow orders, and knowing when orders are idiotic."

"Now, if you'd all be so kind as to pair up and discuss the professional advantages and disadvantages of the different opportunites open to pilots, I'm interested in hearing what you think being a pilot would be like."
