[Ten] The Impossible is Quite Possibly True

Jul 04, 2007 16:03

((OOC: And here's the spoiler-free story of what happened right before Ten and Martha ended up under the stone Mushroom))

Who: The Doctor
Where: The mushroom-stone-clearing
When: Day 36, mid-afternoon
Invited: Martha, May, Marie, anyone
Status: Complete

A stone ceiling.

No, the Doctor reflected on a second look, not a stone ceiling but a stone shelter. A bright blue cloudless sky shone above and beyond the edges of the perfectly carved stone shelter. Noises, the rustling of animals and the hum and buzz of insects filled his ears. The air smelled of grass and earth and salt and sea and voices buzzed all around him. The air was heavy and rich with humidity and -

The TARDIS was a dim faint signal in the distance. So dim and so faint that she may as well not be in his mind at all. That awareness made the Doctor sit up sharply, for the moment ignoring the two women nattering in the background. He narrowed his awareness, focusing focusing focusing on the TARDIS and his head automatically swiveled in that direction.

"Not possible. Shouldn't be possible."

But it was. There, in the far distance, a rip in time and space. Not a large one, one so infinitesimally small as to be undetectable unless you looked for it. He wouldn’t have noticed it if the TARDIS didn't lie beyond it.

Out of reach, but still in touch.

The unsettling thought that his connection to the TARDIS was the only thing keeping that breach open was quickly put aside. He needed it open, if he was ever to get them back rightly to where they belonged again.

Not only that but . . .

"Now that really shouldn't be at all possible."
