to ship or not to ship

Apr 22, 2010 08:32

Internet, I have a problem. I have no idea if I ship Eleven/Amy or not. This should not be a problem. You know me, I ship everything. And I love them both, separately and together, just about more than I've loved anything in a long time. We're talking Tennant's fashion choices and Hugh's shaved head level of love here. I REALLY LOVE THEM A ( Read more... )

DITTO. THIS, YES THIS.

I love Eleven and I love Amy/Eleven (and usually het is not my thing in fandom). But then there is the weird squicky paternal side of Eleven, and of Eleven's relationship to Amy (cuz he did meet her when she was a wee girl). So.

TORN. AGH.

IT IS VERY CONFUSING!

I think I could have gotten over the 'met as a child' thing fairly easily, except it's not just her. In some ways that makes it better 'cause it's more of an alien/human divide that I might be able to leap. BUT, YES, ARGH, TORN.

I have a related problem! I like Amy. I think she's kinda awesome.

Characters I like die a lot and/or get booted off the show prematurely. I am anthrax to characters. (I could show you my list. It's not pretty.)

So part of me is like, "Squee! Amy's awesome!" And the rest is, "Uh oh. Stop watching now." *sigh*

*HUGS YOU A LOT*

I think that if any character could overcome this curse, Amy could! Her awesome is just THAT AWESOME.

I like the ambivalence! I was all about some Nine/Rose precisely because Nine was exactly the much older alien with the fast spaceship you fall for because you want out of the housing estate, but with Eleven I like that he might really just want to tell them when he was their age he knew to protect the whales thank you kindly and didn't litter.

Matt Smith is a surprisingly gifted physical actor. I think it's really the mannerisms that make the old thing stick, and stick it does.

Ahahahaha, yes.

Also, his whole interaction with Winston Churchill was...I swear it was like 'No, you may not borrow the keys to the car, and also I'm not doing your homework for you, how will you learn if I do?'

I adore them together, but I'm fairly sure I'm *not* interested in "together" together for many of the same reasons you mention. He does indeed seem very old (which, GOD, I LOVE, along with everything else about him). And while I'm fine with this idea of Amy having cold feet and wanting to reclaim that childhood that she never got to have by running off with the Doctor in her nightie (hell, I would!), I hope she's not the sort of girl who would agree to marry someone she didn't love...so I see her as already spoken for, ya know?

GOD, I LOVE, along with everything else about him

OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. *FLAILY CAPSLOCK HANDS*

My tendency to OT3 means I do not have a fiance problem (she can have BOTH, hee)...am actually wondering if, when we get more info on that, it will become easier to ship that way. :D

(I would so run off in my nighty)

I'm just back to SAY YES TO FLAILY CAPSLOCK HANDS!!!! \o/ I mean, SERIOUSLY! I don't even have anything sensible to say, squee is off the charts (even silly Dalek episode did not tame it) :-)

Still need an Eleven and/or Amy icon....

Coming from a "been watching Dr. Who since the late seventies so old skool sensibilities are pretty ingrained with me" place, I always feel slightly dirty/bad/wrong when my brain picks up on shipping cues between companion and Doctor. (really the only time it hasn't was when it was Nine/Rose/Jack because the glee of a show giving canonical subtext for a threesome overrode it all.)

That being said, I do occasionally get glimpses of things that go to the shipper part of my brain, but in general the relationship I see/like to see is more complicated than that. I'm not sure if I can even put into words my ideal perception of it without this turning into a full essay. But I love the way it is being portrayed and Amy's definitely up there with Ace and Donna and Leelah with my fave companions of all time. And she fits this Doctor perfectly. :D

Yes, more complicated. And in a lot of ways better than traditional shipping. It's always like that, though I tend to bring a more porny sensibility since I came in with the new before discovering the old. :D

Matt Smith is bringing the old skool to his Doctor hardcore, which just...highlights the issues :D Bless. OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM.
