web-savvy help needed

This is public, so it's not going to have too many details, but my dad's health is failing. As he was a public school music teacher in the area for 30+ years, there are alot of people he touched. I wanted to do a page where we could put up pictures, and people could leave comments, and I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do ( Read more... )

What do you mean they memorialize it? Chris' page is still up and viewable by anyone I ok as a friend (I knew his password so I could log in as him). And I could open it up more if I wanted to.

From the facebook faq:
When a user passes away, we memorialize their account to protect their privacy. Memorializing an account sets the account privacy so that only confirmed friends can see the profile (timeline) or locate it in search. Friends and family can leave posts in remembrance. Memorializing an account also prevents anyone from logging into the account.

So I guess, maybe, if we don't ~tell~ FB about it, it's all good?

Yeah, I never changed his status to "Dead". But it does sometimes get a little weird, like when one of his friends from school assumes we got divorced because I changed my status but his didn't.

As long as you set it up and know the password you can protect his privacy and change settings as necessary.

I use WordPress for my blog and it's outstanding - not a single spam comment has gotten through the spam-trapper. Fairly user-friendly too.
