Evokations of smell

When I was a kid, the smell of coffee, especially stale machine drip coffee, evoked "travel" for me. Because the only time I smelled the stuff was when I was in an airport, a diner, or a motel.

Today, it's the taste of Starbucks Green Tea Frap, that make me feel like I'm travelling, because about the only time I buy one is when I'm at an airport

I find scents extremely evocative as well. Machine drip coffee still carries a hint of "preschool" for me. ;-)

Burning kerosene, no matter the location (kero lantern on a camping trip, for instance), still evokes airports and exotic destinations to me. Of course, 'exotic' meant 'America' at that age, but still exotic as far as I was concerned.

It also reminds me of BOAC-the British Overseas Airways Corporation, because that's how we'd get to London en route to Boston. We kids had a bag, with the mighty 'Speedbird' logo on it, that held all of 'our' stuff, mostly books and toys, and I can still hear my mom asking the then responsible kid "Do you have the BOAC bag?"
