I thought the book was adorable. I read it in 2006, in Cambridge...by local standards, it did not have a perceptible gay agenda.

Well, duh. Most books are not developmentally appropriate for any given student, at any given time. It can still be a good book. I thought this one was developmentally appropriate for a 6-year-old. (I think all the sociological implications beyond "Penguins!" went straight over her head. But that's 6 for you.) You might want to get it, and read it to Froggy later.
