Its been a good day today, with gorgeous weather. I've spent the morning in the booking office. mainly trying to distinguish Route Numbers and work out how to sell tickets for Battersby. Joy. Yesterday morning was spent in the Booking Office, as it was the first day of the 175 years of the Whitby to Pickering railway Gala. We had a signal man who is fairly incompetent with ticket selling, so I thought I really ought to be in there! It was fairly quiet, so I am now well ahead on the monthly ticket books, exciting huh? The weekend was a bit more interesting for some people then me. The Weighbridge broke its £20,000 sales target late on Saturday, mainly as the last train was held at Levisham as a trainee guard fell out of his train on the long siding at Pickering, got up, tripped over the tracks and suffered a compound fracture to his lower leg. After conversing with several drivers yesterday, it transpires the S&D loco has 3 fire bars missing. These are the things that stop large lumps of burning coal dropping into the ash pan, where they can fall out or get blown out and start massive line side fires..
