The thing is, I am proud of Manny Pacquiao because Manny's an excellent fighter, and he's Filipino. However, I am not proud of being Filipino just because of Pacquiao. There's a difference that people can't seem to understand; my facebook is swamped with people claiming "proud heritage" to the Philippines because of Manny, and I think that's not only a superficial reason to be proud of one's cultural-historical-national identity, but it's also a fundamentally wrong reason.
