Now for my much more analytical post on this year's Academy Awards nominations.

Y'know, it's funny that I keep seeing people around LJ ranging from ambivalent to completely apathetic about these nominations. Where in my mind [and I know I'm not the only one], this is the best selection of films in yearsYeah, I know. 2005 was a shitty year for ( Read more... )

Oh, my poor wallet.

Exactly my sentiments. Out of the nominated films I've only seen Munich (which is amazing, in my opinion) and Crash (which was also really amazing). The only year I watched every movie nominated for Best Picture was the year LOTR Return of the King won.

I have a feeling I should watch The Constant Gardener... :p

And ditto on Jarhead. No nom for Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, or Director? How silly.

I really think the Academy got it right this year- they went for quality, looked at performances separately from the films they were in, and vice versa. I just feel like this year, I'm seeing people who really fucking deserve it get recognized, and how can that not make you happy? I have my favorites for every category, but (while I haven't seen all of the movies nominated) overall, I'm pretty happy with the idea of any of the front runners winning.

Man, I completely agree with you that this is the best selection of movies IN YEARS. I can't remember the last time I was actually looking foward to watching the Awards [well, there's the Jon Stwart hosting it factor too. *g*], and this year? I CAN'T WAIT.

Still a bit miffed about the lack of Best Picture/Director/Cinematography nods to The Constant Gardener, but oh well. Someone was gonna get the short end of the stick. In a year of ridiculously BAD movies, the ones that were good, were GREAT and beautiful and thought-provoking... and that's all I need from Hollywood.

Dude, I can't fathom how Constant Gardener AND Ralph AND Meirelles got gipped. It's a conspiracy,I tell you.

I was really surprised Jarhead didn't get ANYTHING.
