New chapter begins

We got back yesterday from a four-day weekend in SoCal. It's the first time we've visited our friends after they moved, and it was just a real treat. The best part? I have ZERO allergies when I'm outside a twenty-mile radius where I live. I had an entire weekend of feeling completely normal. Then, we got home yesterday afternoon and I promptly felt ( Read more... )

That’s so frustrating about your allergies! Is it something in the house or is it plants outside that cause the problem do you think?

Good luck with the school plans!

It's something outside. Allergies are rough all around in this area, and the past couple years have been even worse. I did discover on this trip that it's not exclusive to here. We hit a 20-mile patch on the highway - runs through desert, very flat - where the winds were rough and turning the vista into blowing dust. Halfway through, I thought I was going to choke to death. I was so desperate, that I called ahead to make sure they had the strong antihistamine that knocks me out. However, an hour later, once we got into the mountains and out the other side, it was all gone and I felt normal again.

Clearly, the lesson from this is I need to live around trees and mountains. :)

Relocating sounds like an excellent idea! I wonder what it is in your area that you are so allergic to? Must be something specific to that particular place or region.

I always thought it was specific to this area, but I discovered on our trip to SoCal that with enough wind, there's a significant patch of the desert area that will affect me the same way. We live pretty near to the desert here, too, as well as have really strong winds most of the year, so my money is on something indigenous to that ecosystem.
