From Exotic Birds to Year Zero... Oh, how Trent has changed! I remember when I first saw Nine Inch Nails perform, as some all-ages dive in Columbus, OH. I'm happy it was all ages, since I was 17 at the time! Head Like a Hole had been getting moderate to serious airplay, both in video and radio format in Columbus, though this was pre-MTV exposure for Trent & co. My dad had just passed away, and this Nine Inch Nails band seemed like a really nice alternative to Metallica's Black Album, or that Grunge crap that eMpTyV was feeding us. It was one of the lowest quality shows, sound-wise, that I've ever seen NiN put on, and I've managed to attend almost all of his US tours, with the exception of his last full-length album. But, energy-wise, it had to have been one of the absolute BEST NiN show I've ever seen. Nothing like a young, angry Trent screaming into his microphone about 6 feet away from me.
