After reading this I found myself checking my facebook to see how many 'friends' I had. Although many are from high school, I didn't realize that I even knew 150 people!

I have 132. rather a lot are convention people, so I wonder what status that puts them in.

That's interesting, because I've seen 150 cited by anthropologists as the largest number of people which can sustain a tribal, everyone knows everyone else lifestyle. Get a group much bigger than that, and it either fragments, or starts building a leadership structure of some kind.
