Oh, man, bb! I am so sorry! I would send you my thoughts, but I don't think you want any of my technology poison, even telepathically. :'( I'll pray instead.
It's getting a signal from the laptop, and it's definitely running when plugged in. But there's no light on the front, and the computer doesn't see it.
We're going to dig into it, in the AM, and see if we can't just treat it like a giant flash drive and transfer the data to another external.
If it doesn't work, you will be able to hear me screaming.
Very often the problem with external drives is the circuitry. If the drive is spinning, there is hope. Someone who knows what they are doing can remove the drive and hook it up directly or even put it in a new housing. There are a few external drives that do not have a conventional sata connection on them, but only a few. Mostly they are regular drives in an enclosure. Best of luck, and there are places that can get your data back almost regardless, but they are very expensive.

PS: Go ahead and replace it, even if you can get it working.

(also, PS, it's probably expensive, but I think the Geek Squad can usually save those most of the time)

It's crazy how much we rely on technology - as soon as it stops working, its a huge problem.
