Fascinating, and a bit scary.

The one that gave me the most shivers was someone saying that everyone who knew zhir before 9/11 thought zhir was dead. *shivers again*

The artist talks in an npr interview about how some of the secrets are probably fictional, but how that's beside the point anyway. I wondered whether that particular postcard was fictional - because it was so well crafted, so much like the start of the novel. But in the end I agreed with the artist - it didn't so much matter because either way, the intimacy of disclosure is what matters. Agree about the shivers.

There's a wonderful story I think is in The Compass Rose, a monologue of a captain ordered to tell [ruler] about his home world. And he ponders what to tell. And how truthful to be. And whether it matters if he's truthful, since whatever he makes up still reflects the society he's from.

Rather the same thing here.

(And I was impressed with the visualness of most of the postcards, too.)
