Let me know what you decide about the eReader. My Mom wants a Kindle for Christmas and I've been thinking about the new Kindle Fire for myself, but now that B&N came out with the new Nook tablet....I'm just as confused as you.

Also, I really like your new default icon.

I own a Nook Color. I love it to BITS. It's perfect for reading fic on LJ, AO3. You don't even need ebooked fic. Even though that's fun to have too. Personally I'm a Nook girl, I can't really explain why. I trust them more than I do Kindle. Right now the Kindle Fire and the Nook Color are evenly matched. It comes down to content. If you plan on buying books/movies/mags or loading them on the SLY. NOW the Nook Tablet is much more powerful than the Kindle Fire right now. And a longer batter life. I'm planning on picking one up a few weeks after it's out, so all the kinks are ironed out.

Currently I have the Kindle Keyboard 3G. When the Kindle Fire gets released on 11/15, I am upgrading to that. And I cannot wait!

That being said, ereaders seem to be a pretty personal thing. Everyone has one reason or another for having a preference. It took me almost a year to decide which one I wanted. A YEAR. In the end the decision was made via a trip to Best Buy. So my advice is go to a store and play around with a few different ereaders. Hopefully doing that will make the decision easier for you.
