[hello, this dimly-lit booth is claimed in the name of all the awkwardly out-of-place thirty/fourty-something men so they have somewhere to be awkward and out of place without disturbing all the hip, young, sexy creatures on the dance floor.]

[how miserable]

[ Slipping past his booth, Mercy almost doesn't seem to notice him - she doesn't love places like this, but there are some nights where the bar she works at turns into mayhem like this, so she's pretty pro at navigating this stuff.

She suddenly seems to turn on her heel, raising her brows sympathetically at Gideon as she recognises him in the dark/neon/flashing lights. ]

Wow. I've never seen a more uncomfortable face.

[oh, pity, lovely. Gideon smiles and grimaces and looks down at the incongruously hip bright-blue cocktail in his hand]

Well. Yes. I think it's fair to say I'm a little out of my depth. [he forces a smile and looks up again] How are you?

Pretty good. I work in a place like this, back home, when I'm not wrapped up in all this dimension-y jumpy stuff- [ wiggles her fingers around to MICMIC TIMEY WIMEY STUFF ] -but I've seen a bunch of blokes like you turning up or being dragged along to these places when they have absolutely no desire to be there.

[ She has glowstick bracelets all around her wrists, seemingly in her element as she dances right in the middle of the crowd, without a care in the world. Michi loves the heavy bass and the incoherency of the music, the loss of inhibition she always feels when she just gives herself to the music. ]

[ ......... staring. staring so much.
her mouth is curved into a sort of slightly awkward and incredulous smile
WHAT ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE AND WHAT IS ALL THIS NOISE

Emmmmm! ( Here, Jules slouching against the bar, leaning against it and grinning at Em.

... She may have been drinking, but it's mostly evident in how relaxed she is, which goes past her normal easy-going way and into bonelessness, almost. ) It's like déjà vu!

[ Em takes one long look at her. One long, hard, judging look at Jules and presses her lips in a thin line, clearly annoyed, but keeping it under control. ]

Right. Déjà vu.

[ Holding her arms over her stomach protectively while side-eyeing all those dancing people and drinks and smoking and other things other than cigarettes going on. ]

( That sinks in past the usual obliviousness, because it's Em, and Jules sets down her drink. ) What's wrong?
