Tatooine: Jedi Temple

The first thing that one sees when leaving the Inn is a huge room, held up by pillars, an intricate mosaic on the floor, and bright coloured tapestries on the wall. Nothing seems normal to Earth-eyes, everything is more lavish, and somehow indescribable. Oddly enough, as anyone would say, it isn't half as ornate as the temple on Coruscant. This one ( Read more... )

And in the midst of all this is one unfamiliar figure in strange clothes staring in awe at her surroundings. Dark hair, still damp from a shower, pulled back in a braid, khaki-colored shorts, and a tank top that says "CBGB & OFMUG" on it. She has no luggage, just a small cloth messenger-style purse that has her toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, a few hair ties, and a change of underwear. And she's barefoot, not having taken the time to find her shoes.

"Wow." April says.

Those're all the words she's got just now.

"If you get lost, dear, there's usually either a youngling or a 'droid around. Ask, and they'll take you back. I've tried to teach them all politeness." Beat. "Other than Threepio. He couldn't be really polite if he tried. I think he still thinks that I'm just the cantina wench." She laughs. "Oh, well. Anyway, onwards."

"Indeed." April scoots out of the classroom, pausing only briefly to smile and stroke the door frame fondly. Her classroom. It was a thrilling thought.

She's actually already giddy enough that the mention of Threepio doesn't send her into fits of geekglee. "Threepio's here? Oh, well, I guess I should've known, what with Luke being here and all..."

"Well, yeah. Artoo usually hangs out with Luke, but Threepio, extremely begrudgingly, follows me."

She pauses, but only to let a group of little younglings go by. One little boy toddles up to her and gives her a hug. "Hi, Lady Skywalker. I did like I promised. I cleaned all my room!"

April grins rather widely (and shyly) at the little ones. They're just so... adorable. She wants to make them all milk and cookies and tell them stories and cuddle them all.

Really, she's going to be everybody's favorite teacher within the space of a week.

One of the other kids comes up and looks at April wide-eyed. "Hi. Are you a friend of Lady Skywalker's?"

April smiles and tugs on the end of her braid. "Yeah-huh," she says, crouching down so she's at eye level. "I'm April, what's your name?"

"Lariton." He grins at her. "I think you're really pretty, Lady April." He pauses. "I'm seven, and I just got here. I'm going to be a great Jedi like Master Skywalker."

"Oh, it's just April," she says quickly, but beams at him. "You're seven? That's awful grown up. I'll bet you'll be a wonderful Jedi when you're done training."

She's still a bit flushed from the complement.

"No! You're friends with Lady Skywalker. Of course you're a lady." The Jedi with them walks over to April, nods, and puts a hand on the boy's shoulder.

"Lariton, we need to be going."

Valentine holds up a hand for a moment. "Lady April is going to be your new arts teacher."

All of the kids look at April with wide eyes and grin.

April blushes a little and grins at them. "I, um... I think we'll have fun. I'm an artist. Well, and a writer, but..." she realizes that she's babbling to small children and stops talking. "It was very nice meeting all of you," she says, and fidgets with the bottom of her tunic.

They'll likely be set at ease by the fact that she's a little awkward and nervous. Not in that "you can take advantage of me" way, though. They will not get away with anything in her class. Well, anything too bad.

The kids giggle before they're shooed away by the Jedi in charge of them.

Valentine just grins. "I think they like you."

"Yeah?" she bounces rather excitedly. "That's good! I mean, I want them to like me. I like kids."

She'll have a field day when Valentine gives birth.

Val beams. "Well, hopefully you'll like baby Jedi twins. I'd love you to help babysit if you don't mind."

There is squee. "Really? I mean... well, granted, it got kind of old with the brats that were in my neighborhood, but that's what I did in high school. I babysat. Everybody loved me, got me enough money to move away when I turned 18, and... Um, I'd like that, yes."
