For what it's worth, I agree with you on number 2. True, their actions were terribly destructive, and in many cases certainly death-worthy, but almost all of them showed at least some degree of emotion at one point. I mean, if they were truly just the heartless husks of human beings, then they would have acted more like robots than anything else. I've got a number of beefs with that and some of the plot inconsistencies, but I digress.

But. fjldksajlfjdkas. Therein lies my dilemma: Xigbar's enjoyment of his nobodyness is a feeling. Saix's frustration and pining are feelings. If they can't feel, where did all that come from? Why aren't they all featureless androids incapable of making decisions based on anything but logic?

Even the desire to believe that they're real is a feeling. Truly unfeeling beings wouldn't care if they were real or not, they would take their existence at face value and work from there.
