Thirty Days of Blake, Day 3

May 05, 2014 17:45

The A Side/B side playlist. The game is two songs, one for Avon and one for Blake, both by the same artist. I made this with Corngold, but haven't included some of her excellent picks, because we had different methods. My method is the following: Avon is always the POV singer/character for the A side picks, which means that sometimes the A side songs are about Blake and vice versa with Blake and the B side. Her method was different, and probably less confusing. I'm posting relevant excerpts from the songs in question. Not sure if that will make this more or less accessible. Oh well. Feel free to skim down for artists that interest you. All of these are playful and tongue in cheek. The idea is for the two sides to complement each other in amusing ways, and show the way B & A sometimes both do and don't see things the same way.

Pat Benatar

A Side: Fire and Ice

Fire and ice, you come on like a flame
Then you turn cold shoulder
Fire and ice, I wanna give you my love
You'll just take a little piece of my heart
Please tear it apart

B Side: Hit Me with Your Best Shot

You come on with a "come on"
You don't fight fair
But that's OK, see if I care
Knock me down, it's all in vain
I'll get right back on my feet again

Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me
With your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire Away

Bob Dylan

A Side: Things Have Changed

I hurt easy, I just don't show it
You can hurt someone and not even know it
The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity

Gonna get low down, gonna fly high
All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie
I'm in love with a woman that don't even appeal to me

...

People are crazy, times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm outta range
I used to care, but things have changed

B Side: The Times They Are A Changin'

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Lady Gaga

A Side: Beautiful, Dirty, Rich

Pants tighter than plastic, honey
but we got no money

We do the dance right, we have go it made like icecream topped with honey
But we got no money
Daddy I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry yea, we just like to party, like to party yea

One word: GAMBIT

B Side: Bad Romance

I want your drama
The touch of your hand
I want your leather-studded kiss in the sand
I want your love
Love-love-love
I want your love
(Love-love-love I want your love)

Queen

A Side: I Wanna Break Free

But life still goes on
I can't get used to, living without, living without,
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone, hey
God knows, got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
I've got to break free.

B Side: Another One Bites the Dust

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
There are plenty of ways you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him
You can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him
When he's down
But I'm ready, yes I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
repeating the sound of the beat

The Beatles

A Side: Think for Yourself

I've got a word or two
To say about the things that you do
You're telling all those lies
About the good things that we can have
If we close our eyes

Do what you want to do
And go where you're going to
Think for yourself
Cos I won't be there with you

B Side: We Can Work it Out

Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again

Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out

Leonard Cohen
A: Everybody Knows

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

B: First we Take Manhattan

They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin...

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those

Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
