I don't know why I didn't see this before. Now that it's pointed out, it seems obvious. An interesting theory about who Clara Oswald might be, here. If it isn't right, it oughta be. Look at the pictures!
Only thing is that CAL was dying, which was why she's become a computer database. So there would have had to have been a cure that allows her to live a normal life. Also... How can she exist in multiple timelines? Unless CAL is only the Oswin we meet in Asylum of the Daleks and not the other two.
I know, I actually wondered if "she was dying" would explain this. She somehow comes out of her database to live in multiple times but dies every time. Via books, possibly? It sounds crazy, but Moffat loves the crazy:-).
Could be, sounds very plausible. Also, on the Jonathan Ross show, Matt Smith gave one clue about the 50th anniversary: paintings. Chris thinks maybe Clara is being channelled through paintings, perhaps...
I agree that it could certainly be a cheat to get River back for good, too. (I am not actually a River fan, so this aspect of the theory doesn't appeal to me.) But if there's some way to use books to get in and out of the Library... In any event, it seems like it could easily be true, and makes more sense than any other theory I've seen so far.
I was thinking the same thing (and I'm no River fan either) but if CAL gets out then this gets River out of the Library world too. Also, there is the simple fact that both Cal and Clara are Moffat darlings and he loves plays on female character names from child to woman: Song Melody blah blah.
