“There was this guy- we’ll call him Jared- and this other guy- we’ll call him Jensen- and they met on the TV show Supernatural. Right from the beginning, they were instant friends and got along like a house on fire. They both came from Texas and had an older brother and younger sister. They had a lot in common and similar interests, but were different enough to have friendly debates. Jared was tall, really smart, and ridiculously good looking, and Jensen was short-”

“Hey!” Jensen interrupts indignantly, scowling.

Jared ignores him and continues smoothly, “Jensen was short and so incredibly pretty it was unnatural and people were known to drool or spontaneously combust just looking at him.” He cuts his eyes over to Jensen, who has a slight smile playing over his lips. “Anyway. They steadily grew closer over the years, till they were closer than brothers, closer than best friends even. They helped each other through breakups and tough shooting days and buying houses and getting kicked out of apartments and family drama and sick pets, through hangovers and finding the perfect gift for their mamas and attempts to cook and broken bones and the flu, through giggling fits on set and pranks and inside jokes and marathon movie nights and weekends spent playing video games. Big things, little things, good times or bad, didn’t matter, they were always there for each other. And they hardly ever fought.”

Beside him, Jensen snorts, attempting to hide it in his book.

“Shut up. It’s my story. Let me tell it.” He waits for Jensen to say something else. When he stays silent, Jared picks up the thread of his story. “So, after 4 years of friendship, they were pretty tight, and they’d seen each other at their best and at their worst and everything in between. But things were about to change. They often shot Supernatural at odd times and for long hours. It wasn’t unusual for them to get home with just enough energy to kick off their shoes and stumble to bed, maybe eat something real quick if their driver stopped for them on the way home. One day, they were stupid tired, completely exhausted and incoherent. They didn’t even make it to bed, simply crashed on the couch and fell asleep within minutes. When they woke up the next morning, they were completely wrapped around each other, arms and legs tangled, snuggled so close they breathed the same air. They stared sleepily at each other and smiled. And they’ve pretty much never slept apart since then,” Jared finished, glancing at Jensen with a look he knew was hopelessly adoring and completely head-over-heels.

“She seems totally unimpressed, Jay,” Jensen says, setting down his book and turning toward Jared on the bed.

Smoothing down Ella’s unruly blonde curls, Jared shakes his head. “Give her time. She’ll come to realize it’s the greatest love story ever.”

Jensen snorts again and lets Ella grab his finger in her chubby fist. “She’s only 3 months old, Jay. Besides, you suck at storytelling.”

“Whatever. That’s because I had to leave out the NC-17 parts for her,” he mutters, then brightens. “See that smile? That’s her my-daddies-are-the-best-in-the-world smile.”

“More like her I’m-about-to-throw-up-all-over-my-daddy’s-lap smile,” Jensen corrects him, smirking.

Jared rolls his eyes and leans over to plant a wet, sloppy, smacking kiss on Jensen’s forehead. Growling, Jensen wipes his forehead off on Jared’s shirt. “Ella loves me more. She only does that to you.”

“Yeah, I’m lucky like that.” Jensen smiles as Ella’s eyes droop and she slowly slides sideways on Jared’s lap. “Here, let me change her and get her in her crib.”

“Okay. G’night, baby girl.” Kissing her cheek, he inhales the fresh baby powder smell of her skin before carefully handing her over to Jensen. She immediately tucks her feet up and nuzzles into his chest, sucking away happily on her thumb.

“Night, Daddy,” Jensen answers for her, then scoots off the bed to take Ella to her own room down the hall.

Yawning, Jared heads into the bathroom. He hears Jensen softly singing Ella to sleep as he brushes his teeth and gets ready for bed. He can’t keep the dopey smile off his face, which makes brushing his teeth difficult, but he really doesn’t care at all. He’s nodding off when Jensen slips into bed behind him and wraps an arm around his waist. Jared cranes his head around to kiss him, soft and slow.

“And they lived happily ever after,” he murmurs when he finally pulls away.

“Sap,” Jensen says fondly, caressing his jaw and settling back into his pillow.

Jared just smiles and closes his eyes.
