There is a long story that was the breaking point for this decision, but if I must be honest - my heart was never as into work as it was before having children. I am so happy for you and your family, especially Alex and Zoe. You will be in my thoughts in the months ahead - what a challenge but you are up to it. Hopefully there will be a minute or two to blog every now and then, right? :)

I am loving the southwest and the weather here, believe it or not; I do NOT miss the rat race of the DC area at all. I do miss my friends, though, and think of them quite often. All best wishes to you and your family, Misty - wish that I had been able to do that!!

Good for you!

I made the decision out of residency to take reduced pay for reduced work. I'm a .7, so I'm home 4 days a week. I couldn't afford to not work, but I *could* afford to work less. I love that I am around my kids, and I especially love that I have the energy and patience for my job now that I don't have to do it every day. Primary care is emotionally draining!
