Because caution at unguarded left turns is something my mom taught me to do.
Unguarded left turns are the number one killer of motorcyclists - people just flat don't see us coming, turn left in front of us, and *splat*. Good on yer for being more cautious than the average maroon (like that db behind you... wonder how many near-crashes he's caused).
