I quite liked the list too, though I'd have left off all the Firefly characters (because I didn't like Firefly at all) and possibly replaced one of them with Enver Gjokai's character from Dollhouse, because I thought he was a really good actor, another with Darla, because no best Joss character list works for me without her, and probably the third one with Drusilla.

I'd also have had the Angelus entry as Angel/Angelus, as I don't think they're two separate people and you can't have one without the other and I do like Angel a lot on his own show.

Good point, but Angel is a wet blanket compared to Angelus. And if it were Buffyverse characters, Darla would have made top 10 for me. Victor/Tony (Enver)? Fabulous, but much less well-known on a subpar show.

I s'pose, though I do still have a sneaking fondness for season 1, especially that episode where Echo is hunted by the nasty serial killer with the crossbow, and particularly that scene where she thinks she's reached safety, only to find herself talking on the phone to the very guy who is hunting her, and, instead of screaming and begging for mercy, she starts raving that she's going to kill him.

None of which has anything to do with Enver Gjokai, of course. ;)

Dollhouse does have its moments, but it's my least favorite of Joss' TV shows (though I haven't seen Agents of SHIELD, so I have no idea).

I'm pleasantly surprised they didn't include Xander.

I guess I don't have a huge problem with the list overall, save for shifting some order around. I really wouldn't put Mal top 5. I get the fanboy love, but if that's the reason, why isn't Xander on there? I don't know, there's just...not enough of him, you know? Half a season and a movie. Compared to Giles or Willow who have pretty rich arcs.

I'd probably put Glory over the Mayor, too, tbh. Lorne > Andrew as well.

Pretty decent list, though. Compared to how crappy they usually are.

Lorne! I love Lorne.

I forgot about Lorne! Non-binary sexually ambiguous singing green demons are certainly original!

Xander isn't there because he's very basic - the friend-zoned sidekick - think Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable (if you've ever partaken of early 00's Disney Channel cartoons). You've seen him before in other movies and shows, so he isn't an original creation like, say Spike, who took the bad boy trope and threw it in a wood chipper.

I always hate to argue about best-of lists, because I'm too much of a fickle piece of shit to make a coherent one - I respect people who can actually make the decisions.

That said, I will GLADLY contest the reasons for them and I pretty much agree with everything you've got on here. FAITH IS SO HIGH, FAITH IS NEVER THIS HIGH ON LISTS *SQUEE*

BUT, gotta say, I LOVE villainess love. So Glory? Maybe. Darla? Totally. Lilah? YES GOD YES. I think she's one of the most dynamic, brave and utterly terrifying characters in the Whedonverse because she was human, through and through - plus, for all my contempt at the Cordy-killing of s4, the Lilah/Wes utter mess? YES.

Also, River, because she can kill you with her brain.

PS, Cordy makes Angel a stomachable person, she is therefore a goddess and should be worshipped as such.

PPS, I'm stealing "proto-Abed" as a point of reference, cool?

As I said above, if I were to do it as just a Buffyverse list, Darla would crack the top ten and Lilah would crack the top fifteen. And watch that Wes vid I linked to - it didn't glorify Fred/Wes at the expense of Wes/Lilah - both ships get their moment.

And yes, you can refer to people as proto-Abed. I call Angel the proto-Edward.

Oh. Yeah. And also Hannibal Lecter, while we're at it.

And I think I agree with you on the Mal/Adele switch. Mal is, after all, the poor man's Han Solo . . .
