So I've noticed over the years that shops like Closet Child and Tokyo Alice have pages (and sometimes booklets) with items they will pay a premium for. Most of the time, the things on those pages make sense; popular colorways of popular items, recent releases, etc. But every now and then things pop up on there that are somewhat puzzling; less ( Read more... )

I really haven't heard anything like that before, but your hypothesis makes sense.
It would't be a bad idea if they did. I mean, the price would be kind of more expensive perhaps like you said, but it would be very practical, as it would be like posting a WTB on the japanese community, which IS the motherload of lolita fashion. You would just have a bigger chance on finding rare and old items too.

Closet Child lets you sign up for a contact list and if/when an item comes in stock they call you. The harajuku store doesn't do holds over the phone so even if they call you, you still have to run over to the store before the item sells, but the other locations agree to hold something over the phone until the end of the business day...at least they do for me but I'm a regular customer and I've never backed out of a hold.

There are other shops that do something similar, but nobody does a "want to buy" list. All these shops are in the business of used Lolita fashion so they pretty much know what's going to sell and what isn't. :)

cosp.jp's free market site has a "wanting to buy" section but I've never had any luck with it. Mixi's Lolita communities do too and I've had mixed luck with those. Ameblo communities, too. But you need to be fluent in Japanese for all of those, and most people won't do overseas shipping or take overseas payments, so you'd need to be local.
