Genius had never seen the park look so festive before. Granted, the man hardly ever left his house due to his crippling fear of ....everything...but vague talk about free food in the park, combined with the strange apron he'd found in his room when he'd woken up in the morning, had been enough to awaken his powerful curiosity and get him outside. Albeit he was outside at the edge of Captain Planet, closest to the bridge in case he started having a panic attack (he really--really--hated crowds). But it was progress. He was alone outside! His friends would be quite proud of him under better circumstances ( ... )

Derrick felt like he deserved a martini after witnessing a huge dragon emerge from a Sphere-cocoon. Even though Tian had turned out to be a nice guy- nice dragon. Except, of course, he hadn't been able to get any booze in the camp or when he'd retuned to the tree- he just hadn't had time.

Now that there was a barbeque, however...

He located the bar setup in short order and found that there was even a special "Derrick-tini" just for him, with two olive eyes and a twist of licorice for a mouth. Spotting Genius and the rather orgasmic look on his face, he made sure to approach his twin from the front so as not to scare him.

[For any stalkers out there, we decided that Genius and Derrick chat first and then Derrick wanders off and Gene comes in. Then Der comes back. THE MORE YOU KNOW]

Genius was chewing on some BBQ chicken when Derrick showed up. He waved happily to his man twin and then patted the picnic bench to indicate that Derrick should sit down with him.

"Der--you gotta try this chicken! Or the clam bake. Or anything I dunno I'm in heaven--especially after suffering camp food for a week. This is all amazing!"

"Yo," said Derrick easily, sliding into the bench next to Genius and eyeing the spread appreciatively. "I think this is definitely the Sphere's way of rewarding me for having to say hello to a GIGANTIC DRAGON. And trying to make it up to us for, you know, trying to destroy our homes. You holding up okay?"

10/24 all day, Park, open to all. iattractmushi October 24 2010, 21:21:47 UTC
Cloud wandered around the picnic tables in the Park a little aimlessly, curious about the food. It still looked odd... and he still couldn't figure out what it was that bothered him about it.

There were a lot of things he'd never seen before; he would have to try some of them eventually. For now, he settled for some kind of round meat not unlike a large, very plump hot dog, to munch on as he kept walking.

Still... something about the food nagged at him.

Hawk wasn't sure what to think about the food. It seemed a lavish arrangement, and people were helping themselves to it readily enough, as if it were a common occurrence that the Park was laid out with a banquet anyone could take part in. However, he'd wanted to stretch his legs in between shifts. He'd sent Fuu down to help with the shape-shifted stragglers in the Wilderness, so the little dragon's usual chatter was absent as he made his way across the dishevelled greenery of the Park.

He paused, cocking his head, as he spotted Cloud. He'd spied the man about now and then, and was rather sure they'd shared a campsite, though not a fire, on occasion. Maybe it was time to give a proper greeting. He stepped a little closer, hooded spear balanced easily against one shoulder.

"You reckon it's all free for the taking, then?" He inclined his head in acknowledgment. "I've seen you about sometimes. Don't stick around one place for long, you either?"

Sounds good! iattractmushi October 25 2010, 03:35:52 UTC
Cloud glanced over at Hawk when the other man approached. He looked kind of familiar--they'd probably run into each other in passing once or twice, maybe camped close to each other a night or two. Yes, that sounded about right... but he couldn't recall the other man's name. It was possible that he'd never learned it.

"Seems to be, and I haven't died of poison yet." He indicated what he meant by lifting his right hand slightly, where he held a stick on which some chunks of grilled meat had been skewered. He'd been snacking most of the morning on different foods scattered around the tables, so he wasn't having much for lunch. "Not usually, though there are a limited number of places where a person can sleep safe and dry." Cloud tilted his head to one side slightly, eying the other man thoughtfully. "Your face looks familiar, but I'm afraid I can't put a name to it."

Hawk gave a laugh. "Suppose that's as good an assurance as any." Most of the food seemed unfamiliar, but that was such a common occurrence that he was often more surprised when he did know what something was or how it properly worked.

"And if someone's gone to the trouble of clearing out a place for a fire, might as well avail yourself of it?" He raised a mild eyebrow. "I agree, mind, especially as I'm sure you've saved me the work more than once."

He bowed his head, now more comfortable with this variation of a greeting. "I'm Hawk, for now at least. Pleased to meet you."

CAKE CUTTING- OPEN LIKE A MOFO. 10/24, Evening catatonicanon October 25 2010, 01:22:52 UTC
There was nothing there, and then a hand appeared from the air, followed by an arm, and then a head with messy hair and tinsel braided in. She was wearing goggles today, and they perched on top of her head, pushing her hair back.

A few blinks, and then she laughed. Oh, this would be good. She had to wonder if he would show. Would he want a slice of cake? Another laugh, and she finished crawling out of the hole she had appeared from.

She crept close to the cake, sneaking behind trees with audible laughs that defeated the whole purpose of the sneaking entirely. She stepped close to the table and pulled a large knife from seemingly nowhere, ready to take it to the cake, before she paused. She turned to the small group that has assembled and raised her voice, yelling as loud as she could.

"CAKE!!!"

As soon as Blood heard someone shout 'cake' she was right there, standing almost on top of the person, all wide-eyes and open mouthed. Cake was one of the four food groups as far as she was concerned, and there was no way one was getting cut into without her there to snag a piece.

Of course, patience wasn't exactly her strong suit, so she began bouncing from her left foot to her right chanting "Cake cake cake cake." in a staccato rhythm while she waited for her change to cram some of that sugary frosting down her gullet.

She blinked down at Blood, a wide grin on her face, and raised her knife. "One slice, coming right up!"

And then she carved into the cake. It was bright red on the inside and oozed out a thick red goop. She laughed. Red velvet with raspberry filling, it was!

She grabbed a plate from beside the cake and dropped a large slice on it, grinning.

"Bed-jumping fuel! How high can you go?"

Smiling up at the nice-seemingly lady with the cake, Blood was practically salivating. "Thanks for the cake, lady!"

The redness and goopiness didn't deter her, she intended to eat as much of the cake as she could get her hands on. Starting with this piece right here.

Taking a big forkful of the cake, Blood made happy noises as she thought about the question that had been put to her.

"That's right, I'm an awesome bed-jumper! I can touch the ceiling!"

Sky almost decided to skip this celebration, just like he'd decided to stay in the cabin for most of the hurricane evacuation time. But after looking at that tacky apron a few times, he figures that, well, it's an annual thing.. only happens once a year. Why not? Today would be the last day of the celebrations.

And besides. Food is food is food.

So he tied his hair up, left the apartment, and now he's sitting at the edge of one the picnic benches, far away from the fire pit. He has a plate of miscellaneous foods next to him, and he seems.. pretty content to just watch whatever's going on near the center of the entire thing.

The end of the weekend came faster than expected. Plenty of time to see that the food wasn't poisoned, and plenty of time to see that the morbid food wasn't going to get up and do any strange shit.

Stomach full, Chivalry decided to head home for the evening and made to leave. He strolled passed an occupied bench, stilling and doing a double take at the woman? No...A man. His interest instantly waned; a scowl of distaste curled his lips down over a lit cigarette.

"Geez...Men shouldn't look like..." The rest is muttered too low to be fully caught.

Sky caught that last bit, and while he didn't hear all of it, he got the idea. And it was enough to make him pause and silently rethink coming out here to begin with.

"Che." A faint scoff. Though, looking over, one would see him frowning at one of the oddly shaped breadstuffs before taking a bite. It didn't particularly bother him to be mistaken for the opposite gender. It was just. Annoying.

10/25, early afternoon & open to anyone! feathered_earth October 25 2010, 19:44:14 UTC
Krile had found the apron on her bed that morning, but it hadn't been until she'd spoken to Cloud--and seeing the conversation with Youth--that she had made the connection between that and what had happened last year. Her memory of it had been quite brief... the start of it, seeing River transform, and saving Paladin from a falling house before being killed by something falling and sharp.

Still, she couldn't keep away from the barbecue. And she did have to admit that the food did smell good. With all the cleanup and extra Guard shifts she'd been busy with in the wake of the hurricane, the idea of a lunch she didn't have to cook or clean up after did have an appeal.

She wandered around, munching some raw carrot sticks. Creepy or not, a whole lot of people had turned up for this. I wonder how many of them were here during the fire? That as much as the food probably accounted for it. Krile wondered what she ought to think of it, really. It was just ( ... )

Smoke had been by on the first day of the barbeque and not really noticed anything out of the ordinary beyond the life-sized Fugue cake. However, this second day he was starting to get a closer look at everything.

He approached a table and noticed a cake next to a hamburger. It was weird, but he didn't recognize the faces at first. Then, he saw a dish filled with waffles of all things, but that was when the face finally caught his attention. He carefully picked up one of the waffles to examine it closer.

"It is... this is Aurora's face..." He looked further down the table to try to see what was going on, but saw Cara - Krile - staring as well.

"Hey!" Smoke called out, using the waffle to indicate the table of food. "Do you know what's up with this food?"

Krile looked up at the shout. She would have giggled at the way Smoke used a waffle as a pointer stick except for the face she could see stamped into it. Her eyes widened as she looked at the rest of the food on the table--faces imprinted into almost every item near him.

She walked over to get a better look, telling herself that it wasn't to avoid a more careful inspection of those vegetarian shishkebabs that she'd just noticed. "Um..." she managed, looking at the burgers. That was Medium, wasn't it? Oh goodness. She quickly looked at the remains of her carrot stick, but if there had been a face there, it was already gone.

"...This is creepy," she said, finding that her appetite was rapidly deserting her.

"So it's not just me, is it, Ca-- Krile?" He asked before looking over the dishes again.

None of it even looked like it could be cooked over a fire well, but that's when another dish finally caught his interest, since it had sticks in the chocolate-covered items. He picked up one of them and was about to taste it when he saw the face on that as well. He didn't drop it, but he did clench it tight in his hands and his face changed to match.

"I think I can agree with that."
