We moved Spawn into her own room on Sunday. It felt strangely momentous, like we were helping her take her first, teeny tiny step away from us

The daycare she'll be starting in June claims to do sign language, so I'm interested in it. But I haven't read anything about it, and I'm sure there are techniques I should know for teaching it.
That could be fun..I didn't do it, but C did a little, and the boys sort of learned "milk" and "more" but pretty much used "milk" to ask for anything, so they didn't really understand it.
Anyway, they learned to talk soon enough. I'm glad you had a chance to write and that now that the GERD seems under control, you are enjoying your little girl.
If you are wanting to teach signing to Spawn, I highly recommend the Signing Time series of DVD's. It *is* 30 min episodes of TV, but the woman (Rachel) who is the host and developer of the series started it to teach her family how to communicate with her daughter Leah who was born deaf. Leah and her younger cousin Alex star in the Dvd's along with Leah. She has two series out, one for Baby signs, and one for Signing Time. I've not seen the baby signs ones, but I'd bet their quality is as good as the regular series. You can buy them online at the website (you can just google signing time) They are a bit pricy, but I've found that my two boys have a good foundation of the whole language now. They don't teach everything, but even *I* found I liked them. Okay... sorry! I'll get off the soap box now... ;)
I've gotten some of the "Signing Time" videos from my library, and they're great! I'm learning some ASL to better communicate with one of my co-workers. I liked the children's videos more than the ones designed to teach adults :-S And Rachel does a fantastic job with the design.
And gosh Spawn sounds so adorable! Will there be pictures? And pictures of the cradle you two made for her? I'm glad the GERD situation has settled down. That must've been unnerving. Thank goodness for modern medications! And congratulations to the three of you for toughing it out :-D
