PROLOGUE.

“Matsumoto Jun-san of Arashi and Inoue Mao-san have officially declared their separation. According to Seventh Avenue, Inoue-san’s management company, the couple parted ways last week after being in a relationship for three years. They declined on giving a reason but insisted that the two will remain as good friends.”

Good friends.

Mao nearly bursts into tears as the newscaster’s words echoed in her ears. Like a magical spell that only exists in movies, those two words - good friends - had the ability to take away her breath and every sane thought, leaving her with a lifeless heart that beats for nothing.

Good friends.

She turns off the television and rushes to the bathroom where she catches sight of her face. Pale complexion. Dark circles under her red eyes. A walking corpse. Shocked, she turns on the faucet and splashes her face with cold water.

“Morning, hime.” He wraps his warm around her waist and nuzzles her neck.

She spits out the toothpaste and rinses her mouth before she turns around to give him a kiss. “Morning, ouji.”

“You are beautiful, even in the morning,” he declares, caressing her cheeks with his lips.

“I have no make up on.”

“It doesn’t matter to me. Your face is the only face I want to see every morning when I wake up.”

Then she looks at the mirror again and lets out a gasp before she falls to the cold tiled floor, hugging her knees as she tells herself that she can longer bear to look at her own face.

It is too ugly.

He stares out at the window with a pair of empty eyes. His mind is somewhere else as his hands are soaked with dish liquid, washing dishes and utensils that he used in the morning. The fact that the water is freezing cold doesn’t bother him as he is numb. Physically and mentally.

Mao sneaks up to him and wraps his waist. “Ouji, that was a delicious meal. Arigatou.”

“Maybe you should thank me by washing the dishes,” he says, with a smile. “I’d prefer that.”

“I’ll break them.”

“I’d kill you.”

She laughs as she kisses his back. “No, you won’t. You love me so much that you aren’t able to live without me.”

“Yeah, I’m sure I’ll bleed to death.”

He turns off the faucet and looks down at the sink. Red is the only color he sees. He takes his hands out of the water and sees a deep cut in one of his fingers. He tries to recall washing a knife but can’t as his concentration had been completely blocked. He examines the cut and knows that his entire finger could have been sliced off without him knowing.

But this pain cannot even compare to the one from his heart’s deepest wound.

~~

Sorry guys, not too many emotions in this. But I guarantee you there will be more in the upcoming chapters. Any guesses as to why they broke up?
