actually that'd equally fit another post i want/hope/intend to make... but in this instance refers to the three scandinavian lads of the band 'a-ha'. they still are... and we joined them at the brighton point/stop of their current tour. ( Read more... )

I sneeze to look around, but there's no escape. parallelgirl December 20 2005, 01:07:51 UTC
Oh.My.God.
You.Got.To.See.Aha.
*dies of envy*
I kind of missed out on them at the time- I was a bit too young I think, but I got into them in a big way at university, and I still love them, especially the early stuff. (I bought 'Minor Earth, Major Sky', the other year, but didn't really get into it, and didn't persevere for long, though I liked MH's solo album in the late 90s.)

heheheh *grin* i had no idea or would have nudged you. apparently they're signing copies of their latest album in london in late january... where's that link i stumbled across last night... a-ha (*winky grin*) it's in here *smile*

i really like 'minor earth, major sky' in a chilled out way - gets me to sleep sometimes.

i've not heard morten's solo stuff, nor mags's... 'though i am intrigued - maybe i'll look it out.

*giggle* Fortunately I am immune to Morten Harket's charms, so I'm not seduced by your record-signing temptation. *stoic look*

Well, I'm a bit immune.

Well, okay, I pretended not to fancy him for years, while secretly lusting ('cos I'm a Serious Person who Doesn't Do That Sort Of Thing, and let's face it, he's a bit...obvious, isn't he?) but when I saw him make such an idiot of himself presenting Eurovision a few years ago, I was pretty much cured. A bit. You know. *looks out of the window*

I was interested to read on that blog about the teenybopper thing they were trying to do in the '80s, btw. I've always suspected they would have had a lot more musical cred than they did if Morten hadn't looked the way he does, because they were marketed very much as Boys To Fancy- but maybe I was giving them too much credit for artistry and too little for unashamed commercialism....*sigh*

heheheh *grin* i think they are probably a fairly even mix of commercialism and artistic integrity. something i read the other night (the same other night as the blog link) suggested that they know full well what they're up to wrt market and selling themselves, wrt the commercial side. but i also think that they are doing it because they're musicians, artists, performers, and committed to that. looking at some of their kinda 'middle' period stuff there's a move away from the original look (which they've since gone back to - telling perhaps) which i personally don't think was particularly flaterring for MH, and was possibly them trying to shift/shifting their approach, style a little, direction, audience... or maybe trying to shift with their audience... or maybe nothing of the kind. them going back to where they started in many ways may be because that works and that's what people still want them to be - wanting them not to have grown up, wanting to maintian that fairytale - so very much bowing to commercialism. but if they can do ( ... )
