The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances: Your favourite quote

Aug 11, 2010 14:34

One of my favourite things about these two episodes is Moffat's snappy and clever dialogue. There are so many quotable lines!

If I had to pick a favourite, though, I think I would go with this exchange between the Doctor and Rose in The Doctor Dances:

JACK (CONT'D)
If the Agency can name the right price, I can get it for you. But in two hours, a German bomb is gonna fall on it and destroy it forever. (he looks at her, suddenly more serious) That's the deadline. That's the deal. And now, shall we discuss payment?

ROSE
Do you know what I think?

JACK
What?

ROSE
(dreamily) I think you were talking just there...

I'd elaborate more on my love for the invisible spaceship scene, but I'd have to go waaay NC-17.

I have always been a fan of "who looks at a screwdriver and thinks 'this could be a little more sonic'?" and "well I've got a banana, and in a pinch you could put up some shelves". This might be because I either did not know or was not aware that the screwdriver was supposedly a screwdriver until this episode drew it to my attention, and then my thoughts were close to Jack's.

and then my thoughts were close to Jack's

This is the one and only time that's ever happened isn't it.

lol I like Jack okay in most of series 1 though I was initially really resentful of him intruding on my ship in these episode and that feeling has never completely gone away even though clearly the Doctor and Rose don't like him as much as they like each other.

Jack: Okay. This can function as a sonic blaster, a sonic cannon, and a triple-enfolded sonic disrupter. Doc, what you got?

Doctor: A sonic, er... oh, never mind.

Jack: What?

Doctor: It's sonic, okay? Let's leave it at that.

Jack: Disrupter? Cannon? What?

Doctor: It's sonic! Totally sonic! I am sonic-ed up!

Jack: A sonic WHAT?!

Doctor: SCREWDRIVER!

POOR DOCTOR AND HIS WEE SCREWDRIVER. XD XD XD XD

Jack:Who has a sonic screwdriver?

Doctor: I do!

Jack: Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks "oohoo, this could be a little more sonic"?

Doctor: What, you've never been bored? Never had a long night? Never had a lot of cabinets to put up?

BUT YOU'LL GO BLIND! XD XD

That conversation gets me every time.

And Rose is like 'Boys, can we please find out how to get out of here?"

Definitely my favourite Moffat episodes. You're right, it's hard to pick something and the conversation above is definitely one of my favourites.

There's the thoroughly domestic 'milk' conversation, the Doctor in the Night Club and...

"How can you be ringing? What's that about? Ringing? What am I supposed to do with a ringing phone?"

...this. And all of that in the first ten minutes.
