Worried, worried, worried... (X post from CC journal)

So, our doctor reviewed our first u/s, and we only have a 2 vessel umbilical cord. This apparently puts the baby at higher risk for heart and kidney defects, as well as chromosomal problems. So, they're gonna check and make sure everything looks good, and they will be monitoring babies size and fluid levels throughout the pregnancy ( Read more... )

Oh no! I'm sorry to read that. How far along are you? How do the baby's heart and kidneys look on the u/s? Can you have an amnio to check for chromosomal issues?

Thanks. I am 19w4d. They didn't see anything wrong with the organs the first go round, so I am hoping and praying it's the same for the detailed ultrasound. If the next u/s has anything suspicious, or if we just choose to, we can get the AFP testing (first step in genetic screening) done Monday, and go amnio from there if need be. Ugh, it's the not knowing that makes me crazy...

I understand. The two weeks waiting for our amnio results were horrible. The unknown is always so hard to deal with.

Please keep us posted!

Try not to worry. Do you remember that we had a Nov05 Mama who had a 2-vessel umbilical cord--I think it was KristenVT? Everything was just.fine.

There are SO many reasons that you might not have felt the baby up to now--I only JUST started feeling mine and I'm about 2 weeks ahead of you, I think? Also, depending on the placement of the placenta, that can have a huge effect. Zoe's placenta was right in front and I didn't feel a thing, not a single thing, until after 22 weeks.

They're going to monitor your kiddo in there, if there's a problem they'll let you know. Until they tell you there's a problem, THERE'S NO PROBLEM. I'm a huge worrier so it is hypocritical of me to tell you not to worry, but really, try not to worry. It doesn't help anything, and anyway I'm sure that you're going to be giving yourself grey hair for nothing, everything will be fine.

Thanks, Ryl! I know it's relatively common. And, I am trying to hard to not think of worst case scenarios, you know? I am feeling better today, but I just wish I had something to make me feel batter. If this kid would just noticeably kick once! I am just trying to stay calm. I only have to wait a few days, so I am trying not to stress. Thank you!

I am trying hard not to stress. In fact, I don't think I am really stressed, just worried. In most cases it is nothing, so I hope, hope, hope we are one of those cases.
