I'm gonna be in the Middle of Freaking Nowhere, Texas, with my family, for almost 2 weeks. At some point, I WILL need to get the hell away. Any suggestions?
Is this particular part of the middle of nowhere anywhere within driving distance of Austin? If so, go visit Austin... of any other Texas cities it is the most tolerable and least redneckish... ;) I do have a bit of bias, as that's my hometown, but still.
Will you have your boy with you? From there it depends. Plenty of cowboy/historic things to see in Fort Worth. Rodeos and such. Dallas used to have a great micro-brew, bar, club scene in Deep Ellum, though I've heard that's not the case these days. The zoo is pretty good, there's a Ripley's in Arlington (out by Six Flags).
You're kind of a ways out from that area, but there's usually plenty going on. Some of the best pizza I had down there was in Fort Worth, a place called Uno's.
Usually a decent scene as far as music goes...probably be hit or miss over the holidays, though. Not sure.

If not, what part of Texas are you in?

That's the best I got, though. Sorry.
