I feel I've broken the golden rule; I've only now realised we've shown three remakes this semester rather than the originals. My reasoning for this was that the remakes were recommended over the originals, but part of me feels we should have just shown the originals anyway, because that's just what you do when you're pedantic about your sci fi.

The Island of Doctor Moreau: the 1932 film is the one considered a classic. The 1977 isn't supposed to be that good, but tends to be regarded as better than the 1996 version.
The Quatermass Experiment: Although the original was a classic, the remake seems to be very highly regarded too. Justified.
The Fly: Justified, although the 1958 version is also excellent.
MST3K: Arguably a remake (in the same way What's Up, Tiger Lily? would be), but a fun one. Justified.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers: Both the 1956 and the 1978 versions are considered classics. Justified.
Transformers: Considering their continuity, I'm not sure if you can call this a remake or not.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: Reaction seems variable. I suppose it's personal taste between this and the BBC series.
So all in all it's a fair selection. Pity there's no black and white though.
