Apple Cider Blegh-egh-egh

I am taking a break from a day filled with sentences like "Recently elected chair of the International Advisory Board of the United Nations University International Institute of Global Health" (and I am not even making that up), and am here to complain.

I'm seeing a nutritionist/muscle activation guy for a few reasons (mostly muscle-activation ( Read more... )

YES! I haven't had coffee in days and I'm *not* tired. Apparently I was borderline hypoglycemic, so it's created a real "even keel" feeling about everything. I'm totally alert. My concentration is also better, which is part of what I was struggling with.

I like the fruit shake idea. I really need to replace my blender. It's switch broke off a few months ago. Horrifying.

I feel like the last meal happens later than I want to be eating a meal. I have cheese & crackers and yogurt and berries when I get home -- and then, later on, I make something more dinner-like and that's the last meal of the day. But that's, like, nearly 8:00. that seems late to me.

The body rejecting fat is NOT good, believe me. It's caused some issues I would love to see rectified.

Funny you should mention the Bullet, because I've been paralyzed on that issue for some time -- do I go with the bullet or just get another blender?

I *do* mostly use it for smoothies.

The thing about dinner is that I get home around 6 on a good night, and then cooking takes a good hour. The best I seem to be able to do is eat something *right* when I get home, and then start cooking a little while later. Even last night, as quick as the second meal was (mostly leftovers), cooking the broccoli took a damn long time.

Not using a microwave will really get a girl in touch with why we invented them in the first place.

I'm totally impressed that you're living a fridge-free lifestyle. That takes some doing -- my father did that for a few years in the mid-90s. He'd keep things cold from September through April by hanging them out the window in a bag.

Do you have to buy lunch? You can't bring it in? 'Cuz I've really been digging on quinoa lately, which has both protein AND fiber. Win-win, there, and it goes with everything! If it weren't so bloody expensive (or my parents to cheap, I can't decide which), I'd use it over brown rice and be free of that dreck fo'evah!

Also, what I've been lovin' as a snack lately are Blue Diamonds lightly salted almonds (or even the oven-roasted unsalted almost a great). There's 6 g of protein in a serving, plus your healthy fat for the day.

I know someone else who's trying to transition from 3 meals a day to 6. I bet that after a few weeks of working out the kinks, you'll like eating more light meals than 3 big meals. And I am N-E-V-E-R hungry! Not even at night, which is usually when I would snackandsnackandsnack.

I have no comment on the apple cider vinegar thing because that is just gross and I'm sure it's just a practical joke he's pulling on you. EW.

Buying lunch: Well, here's the thing -- he also doesn't want me microwaving *anything* (I heated up left over rice in the frying pan tonight, like it's 1982 or something), so if I want something not-cold I have to buy it ( ... )

Quinoa might be an American thing but I have to admit I started experimenting with it a few weeks ago and think I've found my new favourite food to cook with. *Way* nicer than rice and much better for you. Bonus - I was on a recipe site that called it a miracle food: its protein and fibre and... ::shakes head:: Anyway. It's good... and I got it at the Bulk Barn of all places. OH! And it can be eaten cold or hot.

Er... it sounds like I'm a quinoa pusher or something! Oy. ::goes back to watching Olympics::

I was going to say, maybe you could get a second opinion but, but hey, if it's working, that's good. Although maybe he can recommend another flavor of vinegar? (yum?)

No, it's apparently ALL about the Apple Cider Vinegar -- I don't know that I could buy it at a grocery store (it's STRONG), but they had a ton of it at the health food store.

But yeah. Blegh.

So, I may be able to help with the apple cider vinegar... drama_j February 25 2010, 06:08:55 UTC
I started doing a shot of it, every day, b/c I read in a magazine it helps keep your stomach flat (thank you Fergie). After day 4 or 5 days, my throat was so raw I can't even explain... so I had to dilute it with 8 oz of water. Which tasted horrible (as you know) and unlike a shot, was not something I could slam and then chase with something else. So, I started experimenting and now I add a teaspoon of honey to it, which makes it taste better. Do NOT read that as taste good --- still sucks. But it tastes better. Not sure if your guy will let you do that though.

Good luck on the new food habits --- it's always the 1st two weeks that really, really suck. If you can do it hard core for 2 weeks, supposedly you can do it for the rest of your life.
