What a great Halloween

Nov 05, 2009 13:38

Well, I experienced my first Halloween party last week. Here in Chile it always seems a little weird to be celebrating a so completely foreing holiday. Even so, I've always loved the concept of dressing in costumes and to go to the street to ask for candy ( Read more... )

Oh my gosh you look so cute! I love your costume. :3 And hurray, you got the apple! I haven't bobbed for apples since I was a little kid. There's a variation of the game where the apples are hung by string, and you have to try and grab it, sometimes two people compete to get it before the other.

I'm so glad you got to experience Halloween. It's my absolute favorite holiday (my year-round decorations are Halloween-ish).

And as far as men in corsets and stockings go, I have to say I much prefer Alice Cooper to Tim Curry! ;)

*blushes* Aww, thanks. My husband told me the costume made me look younger! I considered to wear it forever. LOL!!
I think Halloween is the best holiday ever. And I'm glad it's getting more and more common here in Chile, because my daughter will get to dress and ask for candies every year!
(uh, the apples in a string thing sounds hard! ^_^)

Ahaha! You are so victorious! ^_^ I have to say, when I watched Rocky Horror for the first time, I was a bit scandalized. hehehe!
I love your costume! At my home in the States, I dressed as a pumpkin :]

Victorious indeed, considering I had to sink almost my whole head to get the darn apple!! LOL. It doesn't show in the picture, but I was dripping water all over!
I'm guessing you watched Rocky Horror for the first time when you were much younger, so it's easy to understand you were a little scandalized. I'm practically in my old age now, so... ^_^
A pumkin!! We also ate pumpkin pie at the party and it was delicious!

lol! I remember when my daughter was lit', and we still lived there, we used go out with some kids in the neighborhood and half of the houses would kick us out!! XD
GO AWAY! THIS IS NOT USA!!! ROFL!!

But it go better accepted over time, and by now, at least, in Stgo. is very common these days. Its a fun holiday, for sure! :)

My husband decided to make a "chapulin colorado" costume, I was Dona Florinda!! XD (You must know who those are, don't you!! :P) It was hilarious!

and oh man! the rocky horror show, everyone always tells me
"YOU WOULD LOVE THAT!!!" But i simply can't stand musicals (except for a few), and the time I got to see a live show of that, I was out 10 minutes after it started! O_0

Yeah, it's more and more common here too. Even the Catholic church has accepted this "foreing holiday", but it aims to transform it into the "fiesta de la luz".
The idea is that the kids dress up as angels, faeries and pretty things instead of devils, witches and vampires.
They also get to ask for candies but just in certain houses (parents previously agree or not to be part of it) and of course they can't do any "trick" if somebody doesn't give them candies.
Anyway, I'm glad my daughter will get to experience Halloween!
OMG, you have to be kidding me, of COURSE I know who Chapulín Colorado and Doña Florinda are. El Chavo del Ocho still makes me laugh so hard!!!!! Girl, I want to see PICTURES of your costume!!! Pretty please with a cherry on top? *puppy eyes*.
LOL, I have to say I adore musicals. Perhaps that's why I loved Rocky Horror so much. I mean freaky characters plus horror plus music? That spells WIN! in my book!!

O_o fiesta de la luz!?? WUT!!?? O_0

who's brilliant idea is that?? and WHY!!!!??? I mean, where that's idea suppose to come?? is it a tradition somewhere else?? WTF!!! I'm confussed as heck, the closes thing to a Fiesta de la luz, that I know of, would be "the festival of light" AKA HANUKA!!! (Jewish "holiday")

ARG!!! chileans!!!! not personal and don't want to offend, but seriously, that's the stupidest thing I've heard!!! I'm happy im out of there sometimes, things like this made me wanna struggle someone!! :/

So anyways ... i'm incredible shy with pictures, don't even show them iRL but my hubby's outfit was so nice!! (and funny, coz he's very TALL!!!) so I'll try to make a post with some of those. :)

and yeah, I thought the characters and overall story would compensate for the music, but it didn't! LOL however I LOOOVED Sweeney Todd, (which is also a musical with freaky characters LOL) isn't that odd!!?? XD

(edit: for wording, coz what i wrote at first could be extremely offensive for half the people I've met here! :/

Mmm, I think the credit for the idea belongs to Catholic church. They strongly opposed to celebrate Halloween at first, but then they realized it was quickly becoming really popular, so they decided to change it a little and make it more positive.

I don't think it's a tradition anywhere else, cuz the idea is also to give Halloween a more "chilean" meaning, to make it less foreing. Hence the change of name.

On october 31th there was a huge ceremony at the Cathedral here where a lot of kids dressed up as... saints. I wasn't there, but I guess to dress up as a saint is not the funniest thing to do... I mean, how does a saint dress, anyway??? How many variations of a toga and a halo can you get?? LOL!!

Yeah, it IS a little odd that you liked Sweeney Todd, since you don't like musicals... but it's just Sweeney Todd so totally ROCKS!!! So I totally understand you. I have to say, tho, that ST is WAAAYYY less freaky than Rocky Horror!!

HAHAHA!!! Enjoying a gringo holiday, huh? That's why I love Halloween so much. The candy, the fun, the costumes, the weather changing... (For us, it's a cool, crisp autumn. Southern California people experience pretty nice weather all year round. YAY!)

You look so cute in your costume and yay for apple bobbing! I haven't played that in years. Last time I did, my costume was completely drenched. LOL! I think I was shoved into the water.

Hope you celebrate next year. I plan on making another awesome costume and a bigger, better haunted house. :D

LOL, one of the things my friend Andra said, was it was really strange to be getting ready to celebrate Halloween under the blazing sun and the blossoming flowers of spring here... She was a little nostalgic of US's autumn and her dream came true, because it turned up that 31th was cloudy, windy and it even ended up raining! ^_^

OH, I'd love it SO VERY MUCH to celebrate it next year... I'd choose a scary costume like yours!!!
