Interesting reading the Autism spectrum testing article - my niece was diagnosed as Asperger's during 4 year old kindergarden, and it was a complete surprise to all of us. I think probably because we were thinking of much more stereotypical symptoms of autism, which she doesn't present with, and weren't aware of other symptoms that are part of the autism spectrum which she does present with. She's also high functioning, which makes things trickier in terms of lay person diagnosis. I'm glad she was picked up relatively early - the therapies she's been receiving have been really beneficial for her.

It does make me wonder how many girls are missed even by their parents, just because they're not aware of what can be an indicator.

Simone talks about the frustration of missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis - symptoms being dismissed as eccentricity or, worse, attention-seeking. So I'm glad recognition for girls and women with Asperger's is on the rise.
