The Walking Dead S3 Ep1

Oct 20, 2012 11:44

So, Himself and I sat down and watched the season three premiere of The Walking Dead last night.

Let me just preface this post with saying that we had to stop the DVR several times to argue about Roman era weapons. So, you know, some perspective on just how fucking nerdy Himself and I are.

Not going to lie, there be ranting ahead )

my crazy is showing, the walking dead

I want to watch this show. I wish I could watch this show. But if there's one thing that constantly and unendingly makes me piss myself in fear and have reoccuring nightmares about, it's zombies. Reading about them? No problem. Show me (very realistically) decaying mindless (or oh god not mindless) corpses chasing after and killing the survivors, well hello there nightmares and daymares! Seriously, I'll come downstairs at night for a drink and I know there's a zombie in the dark living room, waiting for me.

But but but, I've always LOVED apocalyptic stories and survival stories, and I want to watch it but I just can't. :(

That said, I've sort of peeked my way though the webisodes (with finger on the pause button and volume turned down low) and it's SO GOOD! Have you watched them?

I watched season one's webisodes I think. The one with the walker Rick kills in the first episode? Yeah. That one. That was good. I liked that. Gory, yeah, but good. Zombies don't scare me as much as ghosts. Fucking Paranormal Activity. Pretty much ANY ghost stuff will freak me right the fuck out just THINKING about it. Pretty sad, but I also LOVE them, so I watch them anyway and totally freak myself out.

And we wonder why I have nightmares. *lesigh*

There's a new webisode series now, called Cold Storage. I (sort of) watched it yesterday, and I think it was pretty good. I could even watch a couple of the zombie scenes. Of course, then I was terrified of moving in case the one upstairs heard me, but you know... :P

Ghost stuff freak me out too, but so much less so than zombies. What the heck is wrong with us, being attracted to the stuff that scares us so badly?!

It's gotta be hardwired into the psyche. I'm ridiculously scared of ghosts but I also love them like burrrrrrning. I still can't read The Shining after dark. I'm such a dork, I know.

I fucking loved it. I am still kind of iffy about Andrea being separated from the group; she's not supposed to go to Woodbury. BUT. I think Michonne is perfectly done and I can't wait to see the Governor.

The whole beginning I loved because it so easily stated how long they'd been running and the amped tension that had obviously been there for a hot minute. I think Rick's new "top dog I can get this done," attitude was responsible for his throwing that dog food. And OH GOD, as much as I can't stand Lori and the fact she put that knife in Rick's hand really, I felt kind of bad for her in the way Rick was treating her. BUT. He has every reason to be that way. I just got uncomfortable seeing them like that.

I miss Shane.

And I loved Carl and Beth, too cute. I also love Glenn and Maggie; they're just like the comic. What happened to Herschel happened to Dale in the books - I'll be interested to see how they spin that out.

All in all, I really enjoyed it and it was worth the wait, imho.

I agree with you that the beginning did do a really good job on highlighting how long they've been on the run. I totally didn't add how I cheered and fist-pumped when Maggie stopped on the way to the car to grab that ax. That's my girl! I don't HATE Maggie, which is half my problem with re-writing the series in my head (look, I'll be a slash shipper till the end. I can't help it. ><). So I kind of adore the idea of Glenn and Darryl being a thing. ANYWAY. Yeah ( ... )
