An Extraordinary Occurence

Jul 08, 2009 09:17

I failed to wake up at 4am this morning in order to observe the centennial phenomenon of seeing the time be 04:05:06 07/08/09. Of course, I had really wanted to see it, I suppose I would have actually set the alarm or something like that. I was awake when it occurred at GMT. Does that count?

What I find amusing is that they said the name change was to attract a new audience that might be scared away by the Science Fiction reference . . Um . . .So you name it something confusing hoping that when people who are afraid of SciFi things tune into their SciFi programing that they will be to confused to tune out?
I think they totally killed their audience when they replaced StarGate with yet another night of wrestling.

And yea . . in HS, my boyfriend's older brother's girlfriend drove a very beat up rust bucket 1970s Nova. We just figured it was truth in advertising.

The only time I can think of rebranding working is when a company rebrands itself or a product that people have already been referring to in a shortened form: Columbia Broadcasting System --> CBS, International Business Machines --> IBM, Coca-Cola --> Coke (actually, they simply identified the same product with two different names), Pepsi-Cola --> Pepsi, etc. I'm sure someone will come up with a counter-example, but the point is that it rarely works unless there is already a cultural reference to support it.

...they're actually showing Science Fiction programming on SciFi still....

What with all the WWE/WWF, Horror, Thrillers and God-Awful Reality Shows I must've missed it. They've cancelled all the halfway decent SciFi Originals. :-P

LOL @ SyFy....what a dumbass!

What a shame. I guess they ran out of Baldwin brothers....or was that USA Channel? I think I'm even more grateful we dropped the cable television out of our lives.

OMG. I wonder if the cable channel is trying to say "syfy" (definition 4) to its erstwhile core audience. What *were* they thinking?

They weren't. That is why I advocate increasing the unemployment statistics.

04:05:06 07/08/09 I never thought of that being a regular centennial occurrence, but it makes sense.

There's a lot of them out there:

00:01:02 03/04/05
01:02:03 04/05/06
...
but the sequence stops in December of the 14th year of a given century:

09:10:11 12/13/14

There are other "neat combinations" as well with descending numbers

15:14:13 12/11/10

Multiplications:

02:04:06 08/10/12
03:06:09 12/15/18

Mathematical sequences:

01:02:03 05/07/11

Lots and lots of patterns to find for the numerically obsessed....

Only in Military time. ;-D

A lot of software systems and European countries use 24-hour time--it isn't just military.

Thanks for the warning - you saved my screen from being covered in water as I spit my drink out of my nose.

I noticed the 'syfy' logo last night while watching the premier of Warehouse 13. It's annoying and stupid, and yes, whoever came up with it needs to be fired.
