I'm not sure if I care enough to try and rebuild the thing since it seemed to be such a failure.

It may not have turned out as you intended, but it still looked lovely. Does that still qualify as a failure?

He's just being melodramatic (and perfectionist). We all thought the pergola was great! He had his heart set on the whole gatehouse.

I don't consider 8 painted poles with some router carving to be exactly a smashing success either. I made the best of what I could, so we could have something. But as you say, the vision was grander. I am still extremely disappointed that it didn't come together as planned.

It has gotten way too easy to discourage me.... The whole thing will need to be re-engineered to make it work, and I just don't feel up to it. I'm beginning to understand why Gryffyth let the original gate house decompose in the back yard.
