Matt didn’t even look up from his computer when his mother came into his room. She cleared her throat, and he looked at her in the screen’s reflection. She reached over and switched off his stereo. “Matthew.”
With a grunt, Matt swiveled his chair around so he was facing her. He knew better than to try ignoring Grace Sinclair-Bluestone. That was a quick way to having his rig tossed in the trash again. She stood there with her hands on her hips, silvering red hair in a beige skirt suit. Every inch the Lady who Lunched. “Yeah?”
“I’m going away for a while,” she said without preamble. “I’ll send money for upkeep. Your aunt Charity will be by to check on you. Make sure Rosalie doesn’t do anything stupid.”
Matt blinked slowly, looking his mother up and down. “How long?” he asked.
“About a year.”
Matt blinked again, and tried to summon up enough care to ask why. Mostly, he was just glad that he wasn’t going to be around for a while. He liked his father’s sister. She’d leave him alone.
“’kay. Have fun.”
