[001 - Audio] It's almost like a bad hangover...

Jul 21, 2011 10:13

[It isn't that she woke up in an unfamiliar forest that throws Rose for a loop. She had been traveling back to the Homelands, along with just about every other Fable who had been in the mundy world. Haven was supposed to have a huge, magical grove along its borders, so forests were to be expected. No, it was the fact that she woke up, when she ( Read more... )

[Well... damn, there's a voice he sure didn't think he'd be hearing again. He recalls rather distinctly how their last encounter went. The sex wasn't too great, her mood was foul, and her stench even worse. Though judging by her voice, she apparently pulled herself out of that funk.

Or maybe she was before that happened? Seemed to happen with some people.

Well, he's Jack. She'll be happy to see him either way.]

Hey there, Rosebush. Sounds like you're looking for me.

[Jack? Not a voice she's expecting to hear. Shit. Did something happen to keep her in the mundy world? Worse, was it somehow his doing?

Rose groans, and fumbling a bit with the book, makes a reply.]

Well, I wasn't until now. Did you follow us or am I still in New York somewhere?

[Maybe he'll be able to get a good look at her in the journal now. Jack is noticeably dry and fully dressed. Though he is curious about this business about her going somewhere. Leaving the mundy world?]

Nope. We both got dropped in another world. The hard to escape from kind, too. [Nice thing about being a Fable? The idea of being in some new world like this isn't all that odd.]

[Rose doesn't like that answer at all. There must be something pretty heavy going on to grab both of them and drop them in another world. Even the Adversary hadn't been able to steal the Fabletown residents back to the Homelands against their will.

Worse still is hearing Jack call it the sort of world that's hard to escape from.]

Seriously? Oh great. So, we're not in New York or Haven. Are the others here or is it just us?

[Well that's rather inconvenient. Rose makes a face at the journal before replying.]

Alright, where am I then?

[No 'What is Kansas,' huh? So maybe it's someone from an Earth.]

It's called Luceti. Despite the wings an' the new dress... it ain't a very nice place. How's your reading comprehension?

[Nope, no 'What is Kansas.' Rose was in America since before Kansas officially became a state.]

I can read just fine. Have something I should take a look at?

Now that sounds familiar. Except I usually wake up with wings and just no memory of what I did to fall asleep like that.

Welcome to Luceti Miss. It's a whole different world. Good news is that isn't quite as scary as that generally sounds.

[Rogue said the place is worse that it seems, and this guy says it's scarier than it sounds...which means Rose will just have to form her own opinion.]

Familiar in the same way or are we talking about something more like narcolepsy?

But thanks for the welcome. Name's Rose Red.

[Obviously for the best. Marco comes from a warzone where he gets to watch his family hunted, so yeah, this is a nice reprieve and all. Plus "New World" has worse connotations in his world. Weirdly.]

You're a narcoleptic? You wouldn't be related to anyone named "Portgas" would you?
-- In my case it's more a matter of needing to be more careful about drinking partners.

Nice name, very imagery evoking, eh?

No, I was asking if you were narcoleptic, but it sounds like you're more like me.

[Rose gives him a short laugh.]

But thanks, I've gotten pretty attached to the name myself. Do you have one as well or should I make something up?

This situation doesn't have anything to do with a fantastic party in the slightest, I can tell you that much.

And you're probably pretty far away from this 'Haven' now. This is Luceti.

That's what I've been learning, which is a shame.

[Rose would take a party over being kidnapped by scientists any day. Of course, if she had a choice at all she'd be in Haven with the rest of the Fables.]

Does anyone know how they managed to take us from so far away?

I'm not sure.. Although they have the ability to influence all of us quite a bit, as they seem to regularly carry out experiments on us as well.

[ It's easy to hear from her tone that the idea doesn't particularly excite her. ]

[The idea definitely doesn't excite Rose either, and she wonders to herself if perhaps her being a Fable is part of why she's been brought there.]

What kind of influence and experiments are we talking about here?

I'm afraid that I've never heard of anyone named Bigby and that there's nowhere called Haven anywhere in this particular barrier. The closest we could offer is Seventh Heaven.

Welcome to Luceti.

That's too bad. Even just one out of two would have been good...

But thanks for the welcome.

You're welcome. It's part of the job, I'm afraid. But I thought I might as well say hello before someone breaks the bad news.

Part of the job? Would that make you one of the scientists who brought me here?
